350 years ago, a 16-year-old war came to an end. During those 16 years, massacres happened left, right, and center, which almost led to eradication. Things were either forgotten or replaced.
From what I understood, back then, it had started with simple curiosity and then to greed; as all things end up in my opinion. With that greed, we ended up with a 16-year war, which only ended when the atomic bomb dropped from a jet (that is yet to be identified) onto the ongoing war; AKA the playing field.
I like to give the whole thing stages: the Arcane, the Brumous, the Ascian's appearance, Kalopsia; and finally Zemblanity.
The Arcane:
Curiosity of the scientist that at first was only a scintilla had grown as they kept researching the substance. This led to their greed. The government, seeing this, had restricted the scientists and themselves from further research of the substance due to the unstable nature of it. The substance, coming from an unknown origin as well, had been a good enough reason for the government to stop the research, but those two reasons were not enough for the scientists. After the funding had stopped, some of the scientists had run off with parts of the substance, and this had only come to light during the war. They weren't heard from after that. The final thing that triggered the war was the assassination of people in high positions. Who was responsible for it, and how many parties and who they were was still unclear until 3 years ago.
The Brumous:
The war. For about 7 years all we know is that massacres and buildings were destroyed, flattened, and eradicated. Who fought whom was unclear, the weapons used unclear. Soldiers functioned solely on commands, not knowing who they were fighting... I wouldn't be surprised if they had killed their own comrades. The substance that was researched was found in the 8th year of the war, and by that time, it was impossible to identify who used it first as everyone had it in their gun barrels as gunpowder. Everyone came to the conclusion that the scientist had orchestrated the whole thing. You would think that'd be enough to stop; well, it wasn't. Their greed took over instead. After that, the rest of the 8 years, people turned against each other for that substance, considering the remaining government had said they will offer support and shelter to the ones who bring the substance. By this point, 1 billion people were lost. If that wasn't enough, a bomb created from that exact substance was dropped from unidentified jets in various places causing 3 billion people to die and the environment at a radius of 100,000 meters from the drop to turn to ash, and the ozone layer to deplete to a dangerous level. The only reason the rest of the 4 billion survived was due to the underground bunkers and being in the protection of the available governments at that point.
The Ascian's appearance:
In this period, the Ascians, known as Restores of Order [ROO], made their debut. The only reason the people called them that is due to the fact that when they appeared, Order was brought back; the day it was established is called the day of salvation. Even though they appeared out of nowhere, the people had accepted them due to their accomplishments. The government was made stronger because of them since they helped the government in finding and convincing the ones who had puissance throughout the war. They had been chosen to head the government. When everything was established, the planning for the city began. The idea was brought up by the government and supported by the ROO.
Kalopsia:
With the renewal of order, a city was in the works. After this city was made, 17 more cities were made following this; this is a known fact. They couldn't make an ordinary city though. They had to construct a city capable of protecting them from the radiation, substance, and the UV rays. To do that, they made a large glass dome over the area they would make the city in. They made the dome while doing the city. We were told that they lived in shacks at first and then evolved into a futuristic city it was 4 years ago. Our city consisted of 25 million people during the creation of the city.
During the construction of the shield, a variable in the form of a virus showed up. The doctors found out that the virus enters through your respiratory and goes straight to your brain and settles there. That was all that could be understood; they couldn't comprehend it. The people had speculated that it wasn't a virus but a mental illness, due to the fact that it enters in moments of sorrow or grief and causes something similar to hallucinations. Doctors had come to the conclusion it was intelligent enough to know which emotion you are most vulnerable at. The virus is slow, and you wouldn't be able to tell it's there until it has actually settled. There was no solution for it, and because of that, another 78 thousand people were lost. The virus was called Epione AKA Makaria.
As soon as the dome was completed, which took 178 years excluding the city, the scientists had started to officially find a way to cure it but always came out blank on solutions. Due to this situation, they started to identify them through eyes and actions; they started to separate them into lost causes, carriers, and unaffected. The government couldn't afford it to spread; they decided to cast them out, and that decision didn't come without consequences. The people revolted, and the government's response was "that there is a cost for everything, and this is the cost"; and well, the people couldn't say anything to this since the government and the ROO brought them this paradise. But there were still people who went against them and caused too much of a disturbance. The government dubbed them rebels.
They started another division almost immediately afterward. The lost causes, they were mindless and wouldn't know the difference between reality and fantasy. So people didn't really care too much about them. The carriers were the ones nearing the lost cause stage but still had a fighting chance. Them the people felt pity, but never bothered to help them out. Rebels, the ones who went against the government. The lower cast had to be sent out due to overpopulation; this had caused another uproar from the people, but they were reminded of their place once again; it really was so obvious back then, but I guess no one wanted to see reality; that included me.
ROO didn't want any part in the decision of the lower cast. They maintained neutrality throughout the decisions, and this was emphasized in every report; not everyone believed their motives though since they never gave details on why and left it at that. The people put their whole trust in the government due to this neutrality.
They went ahead with the plan, and there was not a single problem during the process of sending them out. I wouldn't know whether they still do it or not. When I was there, they cast out rebels and carriers. The rebels, they never gave details on their crime. People believed that there was a facility outside the city working on a cure with the carriers, and another to help with the reforming of rebels since some of the rebels appeared again after being detained in public. But even if they didn't believe that, no one ever tries to clarify this information in fear that they would be next if the government misunderstands and thinks they could be potential rebels.
There were problems in which the government and ROO worked hand in hand to overcome. Back then I knew there were too many holes in the story, but I never bothered finding out due to the fact my life could be turned upside down. Yet here I am, talking about it. Like I said curiosity leads to greed; It was a taboo topic, the war, the carriers, the lost causes; and the healthy.
Zemblanity:
This stage was vital.
This stage was where the playing field appeared once again.
The things forgotten, remembered.
The things replaced, came into being once again.
This stage was the Grand Finale.
