Chapter 1
“Like many stories heard, this one starts in tragedy. Earlier this afternoon, Amanda Wentworth, wife of self-made Billionaire Reed Wentworth has gone missing. Sources say that Mrs. Wentworth was seen stopping at First National Bank earlier this morning, depositing a large amount of money. She was last seen exciting out of the bank in hurry and driving away. As to where she was going, that remains a mystery.”
“This is Bekky Wynters with NPY News. Back to you, Paul.”
Reed Wentworth sat in his downtown office and watched as the news of his wife’s disappearance went national. As he sat there, he fiddled with the note he had been given by his secretary earlier in the afternoon. Though the note was not signed, Reed knew exactly who it was from. The words “You’ll get over it.” And “You’ll get her back in four days,” were written in a coarse hand-written form. Almost like the ink had been pushed down too hard on the paper. A sort of angry vibe covered the paper, making Reed fear for his wife’s safety.
Despite the circumstances, Reed had a feeling that he would get his wife back, but it was the condition she was in that had him worried. He didn’t think she knew about the baby yet. They’d talked about this and said that wanted to wait. But accidents happen all the time and they couldn’t take them back. He knew Mandy wasn’t the most perceptive person on the planet, but he’d thought to give her a couple more days to figure it out. But then she started to act strangely and it slipped from his mind in the chaos. With the Parker deal coming up, his mind has been occupied with that and her behavior. But he still worried that she would do something that she would regret. They’d been married for ten years now and he knew her well. She would have to get used to the idea of being pregnant, had to let the situation dig its claws into her mind before she started to think straight. And he wanted to be there when she found out. To him it was good news. He always wanted to be a father and he needed a son or daughter to help pass on the duties and reasonability’s that came with being a self-made billionaire. But now that she was gone and had taken four and a half million dollars with her, he was afraid of what she would do on her own. What would she do? More importantly what would he do?
