matt is bored out of his mind. currently, he is sitting on his bed, scrolling through god knows what on his phone. nick was at madi's house, and chris was in the shower, getting ready for his first date with a girl he hasn't shut his mouth about the past couple days.

so that leaves matt, alone. he checks the time. the clock on his bedside table reads '7:03pm'. it's the middle of january, so it was already dark out, despite still being somewhat early, "fuck it" he thinks. he jumps out of bed and pops his shoes on, along with one of his warmest hoodies. he picks his phone up from the bed, before clicking it open and checking the weather forecast, 'showers'.

"okay," he mutters to himself, making a mental note to bring an umbrella. he shuffles around his room and quickly got ready, "phone, keys, wallet, umbrella" he repeated, it helps him remember, however he wasn't so lucky here. by the time he is downstairs, chris is leaving the shower. "i'm gonna go for a walk." matt says, making his way to his needed items. "phone, keys, wallet, umbrella," he has his phone in his pocket, grabs his keys and wallet while repeating himself, but seems to have forgotten something.

he opens the front door, "bye chris!" he shouts. he hears a distant reply as he leaves the house. he walks down the road for a couple minutes, getting the feeling that he's forgetting something. he shrugs it off though, and instead puts his airpods in, playing some music through his phone. he zones out for some time, walking casually and the cold breeze hits him.

everything is going peacefully, until he feels a drop of water fall onto the tip of his nose. he looks up in surprise, and it suddenly dawns on him. "umbrella..." he says, dumbfounded. he looked around at his surroundings, and checks the time on his phone. he realises he had been walking for just over an hour, so he decided to start heading in the direction towards his home.

the rain starts to pick up though, and pretty fast. next thing he knows, it's pouring. he pulls the hood of his hoodie onto his head, in hopes of not getting ill, and begins to pick up his pace a bit. he passes a girl wearing a raincoat, about his age, he thinks nothing of it until she stops him. "hey-" she says, holding her arm out a little. matt hums in question. "i think you could use this." matt looks down slightly as she hands him a black umbrella. he looks back up at her, "are- are you sure?" a look of concern washes over matt, as he continues to soak in the cold rain. "yes, i'm sure. i'm wearing a raincoat, silly!" she smiles, her eyes disappearing as she does. she holds the umbrella out further and matt hesitantly accepts it.

he opens the umbrella, making sure to turn away from her when he does, before turning back to her once the umbrella is in the air. "thank you so much." he smiles gently. "i'm wren." she holds her now-empty hand out for him. they shake hands, "matt." they release their hands, "that's a nice name, where'd you get it?" she jokes. he giggles at her response, "my mom." they both share a laugh, and subconsciously start to walk together.

they get along really well, and talk about all sorts of things as they walk closer to matt's house. "oh," matt stops, realising he's now standing outside his home. "well, i guess i have to go now, this is my house." he says, slightly disappointed. he folds the umbrella back up, getting ready to give it back to wren, "keep it," she says, "i insist." he smiles widely. "thanks so much, wren."

"i really enjoyed talking to you, matt," she looks down shyly. matt takes his phone from his pocket and hands it to wren, "here, put in your number." wren looks up at him, a bright, happy glow in her eyes. she eagerly types it in, leaning over the phone so it doesn't get soaked by the rain, before handing his phone back. "thank you!" but she's already skipping off, before matt could respond.
