Thursday morning after billy left I woke up a bit earlier than normal. I had the best sleep that I'd gotten in months. It was about 5:15 am when I woke up so I decided to kill some time by turning on the TV.

"Last night just after 10 pm high school students Steve orth and Casey Becker were murdered in Casey's home, police and investigators are still shocked by the violent nature of the crime".

I turn off the TV. I think back to just over a week ago when I was attacked. I try to get away from city drama and come to a town just to get attacked and find out there is a serial killer on the loose. I do kind of wonder if the two crimes are related, but for now I have better things to think about.

...

After getting dressed and ready for school I walk out the door just to run into billy. "What are you doing here?" I ask. "Well now that I know your address, and I live close by, I figured I could walk you to school" he smiles gently at me.

"That's kinda stalkerish dude" I say bumping shoulders with him. "That's why you shouldn't be giving your address out to strangers" he jokes back, "careful or you might end up like Casey" I think back to the news this morning "didn't that happen like last night? Bit soon to be joking about it" the joke kind of weirded me out, like, she died less than 12 hours ago, feels kinda cruel "C'mon man, this stuff happens all the time, it's not like either of us knew her, no point in getting hung up on it." he's right, but the whole situation feels wrong.

"Do you think it's related to what happened to me?" I ask "there's a possibility, I mean there aren't a lot of people here, how many serial killers could there be" he jokes. It's horrifying to think that I could have ended up like those two, I was supposed to be the first victim, not Casey, not Steve, it makes it hard to blow it off like it's nothing.

...

When I get home from school I repeat my daily ritual of collapsing on the couch and staring at the ceiling, the phone rings, a bit of fear runs through me before picking it up.

"Hey it's billy" I feel relief at the voice, "hey what's up?" I ask and he hesitates before answering. "I wanna hang out with you, not homework or anything just going out together maybe get something to eat? I can show you around town a bit"

"Oh yeah sounds cool, where do you wanna meet up?" I lean against the wall while talking to him, a stupid grin crawling onto my face. "I'm gonna come get you." "Alright well my brother is gonna be here around 6 so could you get me around 4:30?" "Yeah that sounds perfect" he hangs up the phone and I do the same.

I move to lay long ways on the couch 'might as well take a nap, I've got nothing better to do' I lay my head onto the arm of the couch, letting  cross my mind one more time as i drift off.

...

I wake back up to the sound of my door bell, I stumble off the couch, slide my shoes on, and grab my jacket before opening the door, Billy waves, his hair looks less greasy than normal. I walk out and shut the door behind me. "So where do you wanna go?" He asks "I don't know what kinda shits around here, you said you'd show me around so just take me where ever you usually hang out" with that, he grabs my hand and starts dragging me out the door of my apartment building.

We walked over to a movie store, we walked in and as I expected, we headed straight for the horror section, he started picking up movies "you said you like nightmare on elm Street right?" I paused for a second. I don't remember saying that to him but I guess it slipped my mind "yeah, for sure" "have you seen Jacob's ladder?" He says while still looking through movies "no I've never heard of it" I say trying to see what moves he's looking at "no way! If you like nightmare you're gonna love Jacobs ladder man!" he looks through a few more and pulls out a movie with a photo of a blurry face on the front "I'm gonna rent this out for you so promise me you'll watch it" he says while handing me the movie "I promise" "okay now you've gotta pick something you want me to watch."

I listed off at least 20 movies from the horror section but he'd already seen all of the movies I could think of "I'll watch something that's not horror, I've watched pretty much every movie on this shelf, your not gonna find one" he sounded proud of himself for knowing so many movies "wow you must have no life" I lightly nudged him with my elbow, he nudged back.

I started walking around the store looking for a movie I recognized, then I stopped in the action section when i saw bold yellow letters. "Have you ever seen pulp fiction?" I asked "I've heard of it but never watched it" I grabbed it off the shelf and set it in his hand. "Damn who's the hot chick on the front" he asked smiling "watch it and you'll find out."

We went to check out, and walked out of the store with our movies.

When we got outside it was clearly starting to get late but the sun wasn't fully set, the sky was bright orange, somewhere between golden hour and sunset. "We've still got a while before 6 so you got anywhere else to show me?" I asked "I can just walk you around town for a little while" he answers, I nod "alright"

...

We get to a clearing right when it gets dark, the only thing in sight is a large house in the distance. "That's stu's house" he points out. while looking in that direction, I get a glimpse of the sky. My eyes go wide. There were so many stars, more than I'd ever seen at once. I thought back to when I was a kid and me and my brother would count the stars, but it would be impossible to count all these. "Holy shit man, this is crazy" I say with my eyes still on the sky "city boy never seen the sky without light pollution?" Billy chimes in, laying a hand on my shoulder. "That's insane! You get to see this all the time?" I say In disbelief. the fact that I've gone my whole life without seeing this is heartbreaking.

Billy's grip gets tighter on my shoulder. "I'm glad you like it here, I know this town has it's problems but I really hope you stay" his voice is more serious than it was a few seconds ago "I'll stay of it means i get to see a sight like this... And if it means I get to hang out with you" I look over at him and he looks back, our eyes locking. He slides the hand on my shoulder up to the back or my neck. My heart starts racing in my chest. And before I can even think about hesitating he pulls me in to a kiss.
