Chapter 2

Athena's Pov
I was walking into practice when I saw a familiar face, I went up to the Musa and said "By I is that who I think it is?" "Yep like I said I got mad recruitin' skills, bro," he said. I looked at him with a hmm look and made my way to my dad. "Hey Dad, how did you get Jace Carson on the team" I ask, he looks at me with a blank face and says "Don't worry about it, and go stretch before we start". I walk away and start stretching, then all of a sudden I see Jace ask for the ball and dunk it. "Aight. I'm warmed up" he exclaims and everyone just laughs.

We are busily scrimmaging when Jace blocks Musa's shot and the whistle goes off, "Lazy defense" My dad says "I blocked his shot" said Jace. I rolled my eyes knowing that they were just going to argue back and forth the whole time. "You're standing too tall. A quicker player will blow right by you. Move your feet. Run it again". My dad says. We ran it again and Jace still didn't Do it right. My dad rolls his eyes and says "What, you don't hear so good?", "Nah, but I ball good." Jace replies "A lot of kids can ball. Can you get better? Can you learn?".  Jace scoffs and says "Look Coach. If I want to learn about toilet seats, I'll hit you up". Ooh go all around the room "Other than that, I just need PT." Jace says, You can't get playing time on my team if you're uncoachable and can't defend." My dad says, "Ain't no one in here I can't defend." Signs went around the room and all I could do was shake my head.

I don't know how I got here but I'm here cheering for my dad after he beat Jace in a one-on-one match. While everyone was cheering, my dad offered his hand to Jace and Jace just gave him a mug look and walked away. I looked at Musa and said, "I guess he can't handle it".

At Home
We just finished up dinner and I'm upstairs getting ready for bed. As I'm doing my hair my dad comes in. He sits at the end of my bed and says "I hope you are ready to take initiative cause you have the best chance we have". I know he is only saying that because Jace might not come back. "I know, and I won't let you down," I say, "Don't do it for me do it for you" he replies. I nod my head and continue to do my hair for bed, he kisses me on the forehead and says goodnight. He leaves my room and I just look at myself in the mirror knowing that I will make him proud.
