Chapter 1

Waking up, you cough as you gasp for breath. "Hey, take it easy. You're safe now." Looking up to the voice, you look up to see a man. He was extremely well built and had slightly messy dark hair that was shaven on the sides. "Where am I and who are you?" You question him as you look at your surroundings. You looked to be in a more Japanese style room than you're used to seeing. "You're currently in Asakusa. After sustaining critical injuries, we took you to the nearest company to receive medical aid." 'Company seven..!' You thought as your eyes grew to slits; your anger building. "That doesn't answer my second question. Just who the hell are you?" You ask the man as you back up cautiously. 

"Please don't be wary. My name is Obi Akitaru, captain of company eight." As if seeing red, you leap off the bed and jump the man. "You bastard, I'll kill you!" You scream as you punch the man relentlessly. He barely looked effected by your barrage of fists, but you didn't care. "Pardon me captain Obi, but I heard a commotion and wanted to see if everything was-!" Someone said as they walked in, but upon seeing what was unfolding, they jumped into action.  The person in question yanked you off of Obi and held you back by the waist. "Let me go fucker, I'm gonna kill this asshole!" You spat as you thrashed in the strangers arms. "I think we should calm down first, you attained serious injuries, you shouldn't be moving around." A masculine voice says as he keeps an iron grip on you. Obi has a look of surprise plastered on his face as he gets up. 

"What the hell is going on in here?" Sigh "I told you bringing her here would be a headache." A new voice says as they step into the room. He had neck length black hair and wore a navy blue kimono style jacket with the usual fire brigade pants and boots. What really stood out were his eyes though. Red eyes with a white X and O on either eye. You heard about a man with strangely patterned eyes becoming the captain of the seventh years ago... "Konro, what's the meaning of all this?" The man asked as he addressed the person behind you. "I'm not entirely sure Waka. When I came to investigate a commotion, I found her attempting to beat captain Obi to a pulp." The man who you now knew to be Konro answered. "Those eyes... Could I take you to be the captain of the seventh?" You say, your voice dripping with venom. "So what if I am?" The man says uncaring, as if he was talking to a fly on the wall.

Without warning, you elbow Konro in the gut, catching him off guard. You rush towards the 7th's captain and swing your fist towards his face. He moved faster than your eyes could comprehend. In a split second, he had grabbed your wrist and yanked you forward, then swinging his legs behind yours, knocking you to the ground. Without missing a beat, he held you down, using his weight to hold you in place. You continue to thrash in his arms in a blind rage. "I don't really care if you throw a temper tantrum, but..." He starts as he leans in closer to you. "You injure one of my men again and I'll break your fucking wrist." He says lowly as he grips your wrist harshly for emphasis. That doesn't phase you though as you keep trying to break free. "Break it then, you asshole! I'll still kill you and that bastard! And when I'm done with you-!"

Suddenly, a hand grips your mouth tightly. The man on top of you leans down and stops a mere inches from your face. "Shut up if you know what's good for you." Without hesitation, you bite the hand that's on your mouth. Unphased though, the man doesn't move. "Here's how this is going to go. I'm going to remove my hand and get up. You can either explain things calmly or I can knock you out, your choice." You reluctantly give a curt nod and the man gets off of you. Instantly, you back up and away from the three men. They all look to you expectantly, but you lower your head down as the memories of your loved ones dying replays in your mind. "Where the hell were you..?" You whisper, your body trembling in anger. "What?" Obi asks, unsure of what you said since you were being so quiet all of a sudden. "Where the hell were you?! They called you for help and you fuckers only show up after... Fuck!" You say as you feel tears stinging your eyes.

"We got a transmission, but it was extremely difficult to understand. It was as if someone messed with the audio. Once we were able to ascertain the full message, we rushed to get to Ignis. When we arrived though, everything was burnt to ashes." Confused by his words, you look up to Konro. 'The transmission got interrupted? But our equipment was in peak condition... Who could've-!' You pause your thought as the image of the strange man in a white hood popped into your mind. 'That man... If there were more of them there that night, then maybe they prevented the message from getting out until it was too late!' "The transmission we received was also damaged, I think whoever did this didn't want help to arrive until it was too late. When we finally managed to get there, you were the only survivor." Captain obi spoke grimly.

Your blood goes ice cold at his words. "Wha-t?" You stutter out as you whip your head to look at Obi. "That's not possible! Mathias and I evacuated the survivors to the edge of town, you would've had to have spotted them along the way!" You shout as your heart starts to beat at an erratic pace. "All we found were charred corpses..." Obi says, looking down. Suddenly, your ears are ringing. Your vision starts to blur and your breathing becomes panicked. 'That's impossible... There were definitely survivors, how could only burnt corpses be found? It couldn't be...' You think to yourself as the memories of burning flames erupting from your body drive your already unstable mental state into a corner. 'Oh my god, please tell me I didn't..!' You hear concerned voices shouting at you, but they sounds so distant.

'Oh fuck... D-Did I kill them?!' Black started bleeding into the corners of your vision and your limbs started feeling tingly. Out of nowhere, you feel a crashing force on your forehead, snapping you out of your panic. You look up to see the captain of the seventh, an angry red mark forming on his forehead. "There you are." He says as he backs up from you, giving you space. Looking up to the men, you realize how you've been acting towards them since you woke up. "I... Oh god, what have I done? I'm so sorry... I-" You feel a strong hand on your shoulder and look up to see captain Obi. "It's ok, you didn't know. After experiencing something like that, it'd be stranger if you didn't react." You hang your head low in shame. 'I attacked them when all they did was try to help...' You think to yourself as guilt begins to eat away at you. "We'll talk about what happened later, but Konro says that you need to rest. For the time being, you are a guest here." The captain of the seventh said as he begins to walk away. "W-Wait!" At your call, he pauses to look back at you. "Um, what do I call you?" You ask, unable to meet his gaze.

"Shinmon Benimaru." He says as he walks out the door, Konro following suit. Obi is about to join them, when you grab his sleeve. He looks down to you and you meet his gaze. "Mr. Obi, I know this probably doesn't mean much right now, but I'm sorry for attacking you like that. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like I did and-" You pause when you feel a large hand ruffling your hair. "It's fine, no need to stress over it. We can talk about this later, but not right now. You're still recovering from your injuries and shouldn't be pushing it right now. Please get some rest, I'll be there when you wake up." With that, he leaves the room. Still a bit dazed, you make your way over to the bed you first woke up in and climb back under the covers.

'How the hell am I supposed to feel right now? I can't go around attacking people just because I'm angry, but... Fuck! Thinking about this right now won't do me any damn good.' You say as you toss and turn. You try to fall asleep, but the thought of possibly causing the deaths of so many villagers haunted you. 'Gran, I wish you were here right now...' You sniffle as the exhaustion you felt slowly overcame you, causing you to drift off into a dreamless sleep.
