3rd person pov
The next morning, lydia found herself in the hospital, where she learned that she had rescued from the men who had attacked her, but was badly injured. though she was in a lot of pain, her heart felt content knowing that monster had saved her.
when she was discharged from the hospital a few days later, her mother was there to pick her up and scolded her for going to the forest alone. but lydia could not help but feel a great sadness about something she had yet to explain.
lydia felt a strong bond with the creature, and was determined to find it again.
so, without telling her mother, lydia went back to the campground each night, hoping to attract the monster. as lydia tirelessly combed through the forest and ventured into into hidden hidden corners, never giving up of finding the wendigo. finally, on a humid july month, her efforts paid off, as the monster appeared once again.
lydia: i was worried i was never gonna find you. lydia said with a shake in her voice.
???: why are you here? it asked with hostility on why a girl would to monster like it.
lydia: who are you?
the monster was confused at first but memories began flooding it's mind, feelings begin overwhelming it and all at once the wendigo's hostility vanished, the smell of mint brought all of the memories of the people it hurt, killed and devoured. none bothered to investigate who it was before the transformation. the feelings it felt now were just loneliness, no one to share happiness, sadness or anger with.
(play the music now.)
???: i'm no one. it said sounding as if depressed. though while trying to look away, trying to stop it's beating heart from going faster.
lydia: i don't believe that, please just tell me who are you?
it tried to speak against her, but couldn't. feeling it's heart going faster, it didn't know what else to say or even why it's heart kept getting faster.
???: y/n. my name is y/n.
lydia smiled and said: i'm lydia.
after lydia introduced herself to the monster known as y/n, she stayed with it for a few hours talking to it. though y/n had made occasional small replies or grunts, lydia found it hard to keep reaching out it, but she still didn't give up. she felt she was slowly breaking the ice that surrounded the monster.
she still remembered when she was trying to find any information about the forest and so many people were disappearing from there. though only one survivor from the forest who was a little boy at the time the incident happened. she talked to him before going into the forest and getting jumped by those people and being saved by y/n.
flashback
???: look, miss, i don't know why your asking me about this. it's public record, i was a kid. my parents got mauled by—
lydia: grizzly? that's what attacked them?
an old man in his late 60s with a lit cigarette in his mouth leading lydia in a small house, his name was matt shaw, the only known survivor from the forest known as grim rocks campground (i do not know if it's a real campground, just going with one of the names i looked up on google for a good name on it.).
after lydia cuts him off, matt froze, but then slowly takes his cigarette out of his mouth then breathes out a puff of smoke then he nods.
lydia: the other people that went missing that year, those bear attacks too?
matt still pause, with his back still turned towards her. a look of unsurety plastered into his face.
lydia: people are dying mr shaw. i need to know what happened.
matt: i don't see what difference it would make even if i told you. * he then turned around then sat on the chair facing lydia, still with the same look. * you wouldn't believe me. nobody ever did.
lydia still determined sat across from matt. lydia: mr shaw, what did you see?
matt pauses again before answering. matt: nothing. it moved too fast to see. it hid too well. i heard it, though. a roar. like...no man or animal i've ever heard.
lydia: it came at night? * she asked and matt nodded. * got inside your tent?
matt: it got inside our cabin. i was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. it didn't smash a window or break the door. it unlocked it. do you know of a bear that can do something like that? i didn't even wake up till i heard my parents screaming.
lydia: it killed them?
matt: dragged them off into the night. * matt shakes his head. * why it left me alive...been asking myself that ever since. * another pause. matt hands go to his collar. * did leave me this, though.
matt opens his collar to reveal three long scars. claw marks. lydia looks at them with surprise, sympathy and fascination.
he closes the collar and stares off into space before continuing. matt: there's something evil in those woods. it was some sort of demon.
flashback end.
after talking to y/n for good while, she knew her mother would eventually wake up and notice her being gone. she felt it was the appropriate time to ask it now since it seemed to be slowly opening up but wanted to create little more small talk to get a better chance.
lydia: how long have you been here? do you remember?
y/n: no i do not remember, everything seemed like a blur, all the days seemed the same with other humans coming in and me killing them.
lydia wanted to tell it when the missing people started to get noticed but decided to keep it to herself. she felt it would be enough to see how if y/n knew how long it was in the forest.
lydia: i want to ask you something really important. * she said starting to feel nervous. but the question had caught y/n's full attention. * i wanted to ask if you wanted to come back with me to the town?
this question caught y/n off guard. it didn't know what to say. it felt reluctant, it can just say no, kill her then go back to what it was doing before but looking into her eyes just made it seem impossible to commit that action.
y/n: i-i.....
