Jessy's Pov

As the days went by, Liam Salvatore, also known as Nymos, and I grew closer. Our connection deepened, and I found myself falling in love with this enigmatic hacker. However, our happiness was soon overshadowed by a dark cloud that loomed over our lives.

One evening, after Liam and I had spent a delightful day together, I received a call from a number I didn't recognize. Curiosity piqued, I answered the call. To my surprise, it was Dan Anderson, a mutual acquaintance who had witnessed Liam save me from a dangerous situation.

"Hey, Jessy," Dan's voice came through the line, slightly slurred. "I was wondering if you'd like to go out on a date with me. You know, as a thank you for Liam saving you and all."

Caught off guard by his unexpected invitation, I hesitated for a moment. But then I remembered Jake, the person I had met on the chat site a while ago. We had hit it off, and I had promised to meet him. My heart sank as I realized I had to let Dan down.

"I'm sorry, Dan," I replied, my voice filled with regret. "I already have plans for tonight. But thank you for asking."

I could sense the disappointment in Dan's voice as he muttered a quick goodbye before hanging up. Guilt washed over me, but I reminded myself that I had made a promise to Jake.

As the night progressed, Liam and I were engaged in a cheerful conversation when suddenly my phone rang again. This time, it was the hospital. Panic gripped my heart as I answered the call, fearing the worst.

"Hello?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"Is this Jessica Hawkins?" a nurse inquired.

"Yes, it is. What's going on? Is everything okay?" I questioned, my voice filled with worry.

The nurse hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I'm sorry to inform you that Dan Anderson was involved in a car accident. He was brought to our hospital, and his condition is critical."

My breath caught in my throat as tears welled up in my eyes. Liam, who had been listening to the conversation, immediately grabbed my hand for support. Athallia, the lawyer who had become a close friend to both Liam and me, joined the call as well.

Overwhelmed with grief, I couldn't help but blame myself for Dan's accident. If only I had said yes to his invitation, maybe he wouldn't have been on the road that night.

Days passed, and Dan finally regained consciousness. Frail and weak, he revealed the shocking truth to us.

"The man without a face," Dan whispered, his voice barely audible. "He's the one who caused my accident. He tampered with my brakes."

My heart pounded in my chest as I digested his words. Liam, always the voice of reason, spoke up, "Dan, I understand your suspicion, but I assure you, the man without a face has nothing to do with this. It was merely an unfortunate accident."

A mix of relief and confusion washed over me. I couldn't fathom the idea of someone deliberately causing harm to Dan. Yet, deep down, a part of me couldn't shake off the feeling that something more sinister was at play.

As the investigation into Dan's accident began, he asked his friend Richy to check his car for any signs of foul play. Meanwhile, Liam, Athallia, and I rallied around Dan, determined to uncover the truth.
