Naina's POV: -

As I sat in my room, buried in my textbooks, I suddenly heard some strange noises coming from downstairs. It sounded like slaps, thuds, and crying. My heart sank, and I hoped it wasn't happening to my little 4-year-old sister. I felt a mix of fear and anger because of the people who claimed to be our foster parents. They were making this awful commotion because they were drunk and wanted our tiny sister to make breakfast. Can you believe it? How could they be so mean to a little kid who doesn't even understand what's going on?

In a panic, I rushed down the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest. As I reached the scene, I screamed Maya's name, and at that moment, Sonia and Sachin's attention shifted from Maya to me. They stopped beating her, and Maya ran towards me, clutching my long white, beautiful kurta tightly, seeking refuge and safety in my arms.

I'd been holding back my anger and dislike for them for a long time, but this was just too much. They had crossed the line by hurting my little sister. So, I gave them a taste of their own medicine.
I slapped them back hard, over and over again, until my hand hurt. I was so mad that I even threw hot tea on their faces which I had made for them a few minutes back on their orders. Following that intense confrontation, I gently took hold of my sister and retreated to our room. The oppressive atmosphere in that house had become unbearable, and my urge to escape had grown even stronger. My priority was to leave this place as soon as possible.

In haste, I retrieved the first-aid kit, my hands trembling with a mixture of anger and concern. As I carefully tended to Maya's injuries, my anger intensified. The bruises on her delicate skin were not only deep but also exhibited a menacingly dark shade of purple, serving as a stark reminder of the cruelty she had endured.

As I tended to Maya's injuries, the brutal aftermath of Sonia and Sachin's cruel assault on her, a simmering rage coursed through me. My hands, once gentle in their care for my little sister, now clenched with righteous fury.

After ensuring Maya's immediate well-being, I turned my attention to the urgent task at hand – packing our suitcases. The need to escape the oppressive environment of our foster home was now an unshakable determination.

After packing our bags, I quietly made my way downstairs, my heart pounding like a drum. There were voices coming from below, faint but intense. Maya was right behind me, ready to rush downstairs, but I held her back with a stern shake of my head. I could sense something wasn't right, and it was too dangerous to go charging down there.

At first, I figured it was just Sonia and Sachin arguing again, on their usual unpleasant business. But then, out of nowhere, a third voice crashed into the argument, loud and terrifying. I could vaguely recognize the voice, but in the midst of my anger and urgency to escape, I couldn't be certain who it belonged to.
My emotions had clouded my memory, and I was struggling to recall the identity behind that voice. The person was yelling, and it made my skin crawl. Who was this stranger, and why were they screaming like that?

A growing sense of unease settled over me, and I realized that this place was far more perilous than I'd ever imagined. The only thing I knew for sure was that we had to get out of this nightmare as soon as possible.

My sister had worn herself out with tears, and she had drifted off to sleep on the staircase, her head gently leaning against the wall for support. I carefully wrapped her to keep her warm, knowing that her headache was likely a result of her prolonged crying.
