“Is something wrong, my dear?” Lan Huan looked at his partner with worry.

Lan Cheng shook his head, then passed the dagger to his husband and said, “I’m sure you’ve seen something like this before.”

The man examined the dagger in his hand and gasped. “This? Isn’t this-?” He looked at his partner surprised.

“You’re not mistaken.” Lan Cheng answered the question his husband was about to ask, then took out something hiding beneath his outer robe.

It was a dagger sheathed in a scabbard with the same crest sewn in it. “That dagger you’re holding along with the one I own is known as the twin daggers of my family.”

The Twin Daggers of Jiang Family is considered as their treasure. One is silver, another is gold, but despite the difference in color, both are identical in every way. The characters etched in its blade and the crest embedded in its hilt are identical without a flaw in how it’s crafted.

“My father entrusted me with the silver dagger so I always have it with me. As for the golden one…” Lan Cheng hesitated whether to continue or not for he knows that an assassin who threatens a royalty’s life will surely not be spared.

Lan Zhan saw the hesitation in his brother-in-law’s face and thus said, “Worry not, I gave you my word, that assassin will be spared.”

The man’s eyes lit up. “Lan Cheng thanks the Crown Prince for his kindness.” He bowed in delight.
“Now tell me, who is the assassin to you?”

“…The current owner of the golden dagger is my older brother, Wei Ying.”

“Is he the brother you talked about?” Lan Huan asked, earning a nod from his partner.

“Your brother is in the third cell in the dungeon bellow the palace.” Lan Zhan said.

“Here,” Lan Huan sheathed the dagger and gave it to Lan Cheng, “return this to him.”

The man who's  clad in purple bowed and hurriedly left the room, leaving Lan Huan to smile. “I’m the reason why he attacked you for taking his brother so suddenly, so this time I will not get in their way and let the brothers reunite.”

In the dungeon, Wei Ying was enjoying the silence and was in his way to dreamland when a sudden loud voice interrupted his sleep.

“WEI WUXIAN!” The voice rang in the whole floor. “HOW MANY TIMES MUST I TELL YOU NOT TO BE RECKLESS!”

Yet, despite the volume of the voice, Wei Ying was instead delighted to hear it and didn’t show any sign of fear.

“Jiang Cheng? You’re alive? How?” He said, looking at the said man, both with worry and delight.

“So, you wished I was dead?” The man said in anger, making the other vigorously shake his head.

“No, you misunderstood. I received a letter a few days ago stating that you were killed by the Crown Prince of the kingdom so I rushed back home, wanting to avenge you.”

Instead of being joyous upon hearing this information, Jiang Cheng’s face twitched in anger. “Are you an idiot?” He barked, knocking some sense into his brother using the hilt of his dagger.

“How could you believe something like that? Have you forgotten who am I? And didn’t I warn you not to believe the words of those old men.”
