“Are you confident you can do that?” A voice replied, startling the figure in the shadow. “Even if it will cost me my life, I won’t hesitate to accomplish my mission and make you pay for taking my brother’s life.”

Lan Zhan was stunned upon hearing the assassin’s statement. In his whole life, he had never hurt another person, much more take their life, so what could the other person be talking about?

“Have you perhaps mistaken me for another? I have never known your brother, nor did I take his life.”

“Oh yeah? Then I shall remind his highness then.” The assassin approached the prince with anger plastered on his face.

However, despite the look of rage in his eyes, Lan Zhan finds the guy attractive with his doe eyes, pale skin, pink plump lips, and most of all, the mole under his lips completes his pretty face.

“A month ago, an assassin was sent so take your life, but he never returned to our home the day after his mission. A few days past, I received a letter from the village stating that my brother failed and died.”

“My brother is the only family I have left,” the guy begun to sob, “so I promised to myself that I will avenge his death by taking your life.”

The prince was lost in his thoughts with the other’s words. He had a speculation as to who the assassin was talking about, but he needs to be sure.

“Does your brother wear a purple ribbon?”

“So you did know him. Where is he?”

The other’s voice was filled with anger, but somehow, Lan Zhan found the guy’s angry face cute and ended up chuckling.

“What are you laughing about?”

“Apologies” Lan Zhan cleared his throat. “The night is getting deep, I suggest you should rest and we shall continue our conversation after the sun rises.”

He begun to walk away, ignoring the other’s angry voice as he shouts for him to come back. “Oh, I almost forgot,” the prince turned around, “you might not believe me, but your village lied to you.”

“Stop with your lies and come back here!” The guy shouted, shaking the wooden bars as hard as he can.

“Good night, Wei Ying” Lan Zhan waved with his back turned as he continues to walk away.

“Send this letter to my brother.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

The moment the door closed, Lan Zhan placed his hand on his forehead, sighing while he shakes his head in disappointment.

“I already told my brother of the consequences that his decision may bring, yet he just ignored my warning with a smile on his face.” The prince mumbled, a sigh following his words.

“I just hope that he’ll be persuaded to return once he reads the letter.”
