Chapter Word Count: 1206

You woke up and saw that Sebastian wasn't next to you anymore. You also, very surprisingly, heard shouting downstairs. You sat up in bed and listened closely to the voices, trying to make out who was arguing down there.

You recognised Sebastian's voice, though you couldn't hear what he was saying, and tried to discover who the other person (or people) was. You heard Sebastian's father's chilling voice and a woman crying. She sounded as if she was pleading for her life. Sebastian's father shouted what sounded like 'shut up' and the woman's voice instantly ceased, though her weeps were still audible.

You knew that any sane person would've been scared and stayed where they were, but you decided you weren't sane anymore and went to investigate. You didn't really know your way around the house yet, so you just followed the voices until you got to a door that held the secrets of this heated argument.

Pressing you ear against the door, you finally found out what the shouting was all about.
"So what if she's human!?" you heard Sebastian's angry shout.
"SO WHAT!? This woman deceived me, lied to me, Sebastian! She doesn't even deserve her mortal existence on this Earth. Sebastian, go to your room so I can take care of this bitch I thought was a half-breed. You know, I never questioned her, because I loved her. But now? Now look at us. Why, Charlotte? Why did you decieve me like this for so long?" Sebastian's father shouted, before lowering his voice slightly, probably paying attention to Charlotte, who seemed to be his wife.

"YOU'RE SICK. YOU'RE A SICK AND TWISTED PERSON, FATHER! I HOPE YOU DIE THE MOST PAINFUL DEATH POSSIBLE BEFORE BURNING IN THE PITS OF HELL! WHY DO YOU HATE HUMANS SO MUCH!? SHE'S MY MOTHER FOR GOD'S SAKE! WHAT DID SHE, OR ANY OTHER HUMAN, EVER DO TO YOU? HM?" Sebastian's firey voice sounded before his mother could speak. His father stayed silent, as if he'd realised he was wrong. But then he spoke.

"Sebastian. This isn't your real mother," Sebastian's father began, "This is another woman I fell for after your real mother left. She was a true vampire, just like us, which is why you look nothing like a human. I always wondered why Charlotte was so tan, had such pretty green eyes, but I never questioned it. I thought maybe one of her ancestors were humans, and she had that tiny bit left. But no. She's not your real mother. SO LET ME KILL HER."

"NO! THIS IS WHY MY BROTHER TRIED TO KILL HER, ISN'T IT? I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH YOU HATE HUMANS! SHE.
IS. MY. MOTHER."

"SHUT THE HELL UP! WHAT'S GOTTEN INTO YOU RECENTLY!? FIRST YOU START LOVING A HALF-BREED, NOW YOU'RE ACCEPTING THIS LYING BITCH OF A HUMAN!? GO. TO. YOUR. ROOM."

You heard footsteps leading towards the door and realised you definitely shouldn't have been eavesdropping like that. Oops. You sort of froze in place, not knowing what to do, despite every instinct in your body telling you to run upstairs and pretend you heard nothing. The door opened and Sebastian stepped out, slamming the door behind him before noticing you. His eyes widened as he saw you and his anger seemed to instantly fade away.

"How much of that did you hear..?" he asked uncertainly. You decided to just tell the truth. He could read your mind anyway, there was no point in lying.
"A lot... Since you said 'so what if she's human'..." you replied honestly, shifting uncomfortably.

Sebastian looked as if he was about to explode, but his voice came out surprisingly calm. It did sound very forced, however.

"Oh well. It's already happened and you can't reverse the past!" he said with an obviously fake smile.
"There's no need to pretend that you're not angry, I know you are," you told him, making him sigh.
"It's fine. Go back upstairs or something, I need some fresh air." He walked away, assumingly going to the back door.

You didn't know what to do so you just turned and did what Sebastian said. You layed down on his bed and stared at the ceiling, thinking about what you had just heard. A flurry of thoughts roamed around your mind freely. So his brother tried to hurt their mother because she was human... But she wasn't their real mother... Why did their actual mother leave? Did her and Sebastian's father get a divorce? Do vampires even get divorced? If they did, why?

You sighed. It was none of your business anyway, so why should it matter? You wondered whether Sebastian's mother had been killed by now, until you heard heavy footsteps aproaching the door.

You looked up, expecting to see Sebastian, but no. Instead you saw his father, tall and menacing with his hands covered with blood. There was blood splattered on his face too, which was twisted into a sinister grin. "You're a human, aren't you? No need to lie to me, it's not like I'll believe you," his voice chilled you to the core, making you wonder what he was going to do.

"A-Are you going to kill me..?" you asked uncertainly, making the most terrifying eye contact you've ever made.
"Well I can't have a human living in my house, can I?" he said, stepping closer to the bed. You sat up and noticed he was carrying a steak knife, also splattered with the red substance.
"Why not?" you asked hastily, thinking of ways to prevent you're untimely death for a few more moments.

His chilling smile seemed to grow wider, as if he was holding back a laugh. "Oh, you stupid child. It's so my family can grow without any humans. Or worse, half-breeds." He emphasized that last word as if remembering his now dead wife made his cold blood boil. He stepped closer to the bed, in perfect range of your throat.

He lifted up his sharp, red-stained knife and prepared to stab it into your neck. But before he could harm you, a strong arm wrapped around his throat and you saw Sebastian standing behind him, putting his father into a harsh chokehold. "Drop the knife." he demanded, and when his father didn't oblige, he forcefully pried it out of his hand with one arm still around his neck.

You watched in awe as Sebastian moved around his father while still keeping hold of him, until finally he was in front of the murderous vampire. He kept a firm grip of both the knife and the man as he looked at you. "Shall I kill him? If you don't want me to, I won't, despite every ounce of hatrid in my body telling me to slit his throat here and now," he said, watching your every move. You decided he deserved to die and nodded, replying, "Yes. Kill him."

He nodded with a silly grin and brought the knife up, just to bring it back down into his father's neck. The man screamed for a split second before falling limp onto the floor. "Finally..." Sebastian whispered, more to himself than to you, you thought.
