{D'Marcus}

Beep! Beep! Beep! Bee-

I sat up and attempted to wipe the sleep out of my eyesight.

"Wake up baby bro!" Elias, my older brother, yelled as he barged in the room.

"I'm already up." I mumbled as I slithered out of my bed, the hardwood floor cold to my feet. My brother would always barge in my room at the six o'clock hour, full of energy and ready to walk with me to school.

"Well get dressed. Don't wanna be late for school" Elias said a little to chipper-ly for this time of morning.

I walked to my closet and pulled out my uniform- a maroon and yellow jacket with black pants - and made my way to the bathroom.

I stepped in the bathroom and closed the door, turning on the hot water in sink to wash my face

-

Elias and I made it to school, twenty minutes early, to which I complained.

"We're early." I said, adding emphasis on 'early'. I hated being early, too many people, I didn't like being around too many people - or anyone in general - which is why I don't really care about the stupid rule Elias gave me.

'Stay away from popular people, they'll use you'

Bullshit, nobody even knows me enough to ask for homework answers. I mean sure they see me, who wouldn't, I'm six-foot-two with milk chocolate like skin, spotted with vitiligo, pretty hard to notice. I see everyones eyes, scanning me, but staying silent.

I just let Elias rant, though sometimes I wishes he could shove a pencil down his throat.

"[...] who's dating one of the- are you even listening to me!?" Elias spat as he stopped walking. I wasn't listening.

"You gossip like a old lady from the south" I spat back and kept walking, heading for my locker.

"Hey! Hey! D'Marcus!" Elias' cries were like a kitten in the thunderstorm, unheard.

Upon reaching my locker, I was stopped by a group of ogling girls, staring at someone across the hall. Their staring made me look.

And there he was.

Tobias "Toby" Reagan.

Captain of St. Auburns' football team. Six-foot-six, piercings covering his ears and nose, sharp grey-blue eyes. Pale skin, almost like milk. Jet black hair, fluffy like a storm cloud on his head.

His defined muscles made his uniform look two sizes too small.

I was too busy staring I didn't notice the taller boy staring back. I could feel my face heating up with each step Tobias took. Hoping that he was gonna walk past me.

He didn't. Tobias walked right up to me, casting a smile that shines brighter than the Sun and all the stars combined, it formed wrinkles in the corner of his eyes.

"Sup man!" Tobias beamed, slinging an arm around my shoulders. I didn't know what to do, how to react.

"H.. hey uh.. man?" Uncertainty flowed through my monotone voice. I hoped I didn't sound like I was sitting on nails, though I wish I was instead of in this awkward situation.

"What's up!" Tobiass' voice boomed through the halls, everyone stopping to look, curiosity in each pair of eyes making me stiffer than the boards that held the school together.

"I- uhh." I cleared my voice, hoping all anxiety and nervousness would fade away.

"Nothing much, man. You?" The sooner the conversation ended, the faster the eyes will peel off of the two of us.

"At least somebody asked! I'm d-" a girl with blonde hair, yellow like butter, it fell to her shoulder blabes. Her eyes more blue than the Pacific Ocean. She stood five-foot-five. Lillian Carter's her name.

"Hi baby!" Lillians' slender feminine fingers wrapping about Tobiass' defined arm, squeezing him.

This distraction gave me a chance to put my stuff in this locker and head for class.

Upon reaching my math class I was once stop again.

"Marcus!"

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.

"Fuck." I cursed under my breath, just when I thought I was gonna go to class.

"I told you to stop calling me that." I hated when people I didn't like called me that, made me sick.

"But I thought you liked me?" Ryekell pouted, making me want to throw up. I really didn't like her.

"I said I like your hair. Not you. Leave me alone." I huffed and walked in the classroom.

-

"

[...] so everyone please come and pick out of the jar to see who your senior partner will be"
Ms. Stacy - Lenora Stacy - said, her chin held high and voice booming and beaming with confidence in her work.

I watched as everyone else raced to go first. "One at a time! One at a time or I'll pick for you" her voice harsh but her eyes softer than a feather, Ms. Stacy.

"Sorry Ms. Stacy" apologizes filled the room.

One by one students were leaving and going back to their desks, either smiling or frowning at who they picked.

"D'Marcus, it seems as if you're the last one to pull a slip" Ms. Stacys' eyes meeting mine.

I sighed heavily and stood up, feeling eyes watching me, which is weird because I'm not even popular but oh well I guess...

I made my way to the front of the classroom and looked at the clear jar on Ms. Stacys' desk, one slip of paper at the bottom. I reached my hand down the jar, taking the paper in my hand.

I balls the slip in my hand and walked back to my desk, head down, not wanting to see the others thoughts sitting on their faces.

"Now that everyone has been officially assigned a partner. Everyone will list the name of their partner, so I can contact Mr. Claxton" Ms. Stacys' confident voice spoke.

I watched as Mary-John Simmons raised her hand and said "Frankie Johnson" and sat back down. Mary-John is very pretty, she stood at five-foot-nine with brunette hair shaved at the sides, the top laying in a lose ponytail. A silver bullring like piercing in her nose.

Once she sat down more names were announced.

"Meghan Thomas"

"Steven Lawrence"

"Tony Anderson"

And so on.

Now, it was my turn. I stood up once again, unfolding the paper in my hand, scanning over the name writing in bold letters.

Tobias Reagan...
