“I’d like to forget you” she said, glaring at me.

“You couldn’t if you tried” I said.

I immediately regretted the words as soon as they left my lips. What the fuck was wrong with me? I was getting the opportunity to start all over with her and here I was, screwing it all up.

As soon as I had heard that my parents were opening up a new law firm office in Pennsylvania, I convinced them to move us back. Not that I hated California. Quite the opposite actually. All the booze I could drink, tanned half naked women whose only desire was to please me and miles and miles of beaches to surf - what was there to hate? Yet, I threw all of that away to be able to see this feisty brunette again. I watched her long legs and couldn’t help my gaze from traveling up to her very tight -

“Get in” she said curtly.

“Wow and they say chivalry is dead” I said laughing

I tried to open the passenger door, only to find out it was locked. I watched her look at everything but at me. I even saw her lips twitch up as she heard me struggling. God, even when she was taunting me she was beautiful. All I wanted to do was run my fingers through her dark silky hair, pull her close to me and kiss her until those plump little lips of her were swollen. I snapped out of it and tried to pull the door open to no avail.

“C’mon Brinsley. Crystal and Chandelier are probably waiting for you” I mocked. Did she really dislike me enough to make up that story? The answer was yes. I couldn’t even blame her though. Her disliking me was better than telling her the truth; the truth as to why I had ignored her calls, sent all her emails to trash and hell, “accidentally” booked a trip to my grandmother’s house when she came over to visit me in California.

She finally unlocked the door and I slid in.

“What the hell? Were you going to make me beg?”

She smirked “Possibly”

Damn, that was hot “Don’t worry. I’ll get you back for that. Pretty soon, you’ll be begging me to..”

She put her hand out “Don’t even finish that sentence”. I laughed and watched her pull her phone out.

“Hey Alicia, I’m on my way now” She paused and I heard Alicia ask her something. “Actually, he’s coming with us”.

I looked at her and raised my eyebrows. How ironic, the girl who had once made my life hell was now Brinsley’s best friend. I laughed remembering how Alicia threw herself at me a couple of hours ago. Brinsley shot me a look. “Yeah we’re like two minutes away from. Wait. What?! What do you mean you caught a ride with- but, I thought that I was- No. No, you’re right. It’s okay. No really, it is. I’ll just see you there”. She hung up and clenched the steering wheel.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

“Yeah. Apparently Alicia caught a ride from Riley”

“Riley Watson? The guy who had the really big Mohawk?” I asked laughing.

She giggled remembering Riley’s larger than life Mohawk. I loved the sound of her giggle and I almost pulled her across my lap right then and there “He has a buzz cut now. I almost prefer the Mohawk” she said laughing.

“God that guy was such a tool” I said shaking my head.

“Yeah well he’s changed. He’s on the football team now and he actually volunteers after school in that Big Brother program”.

“Oh god, don’t tell me that you actually believed he’s changed. Once a tool always a tool”

“People change” she said, glancing at me.

Ouch. Point taken.

“Well not much. But, anyway who’s uh Mason?” I said, pretending to clear my throat. She blushed and bit her lip.

“He’s this guy. I kind of have a crush on him. Sort of. I don’t know” She said babbling.

I wanted to kill the guy and I hadn’t even met him yet. “That’s cool. Hey, are any single girls going to be there?”

I watched her cheeks flame up and her hands gripped the steering wheel harder. What the hell was that all about?

“Obviously” she said simply.

I heard the party before I saw it. She parked the car a couple of feet away from the house. The house was crowded with drunk teenagers and dozens of red cups thrown all over the grass. The music was so loud it was impossible to hear myself think. I saw a flash of brown hair and Brinsley was gone. Yeah, good catching up with you too buddy. I watched her hug Alicia and point towards me. I walked over towards them and Brinsley smiled. Woah. That smile caught me off guard and knocked the wind out of me. I coughed to play it off and shouted over the music, “So where’s the keg?”. Alicia opened her mouth to answer but was interrupted by a tall blond girl.

“So who’s your friend?” she shouted, practically rubbing herself up against me. I raised my eyebrows. Sure, she was hot. She had short blond hair and her eyes were caked with eyeliner but she looked too…artificial.

“He must be related to you or something” the blond continued. I furrowed my eyebrows. What? Brinsley and I looked nothing alike.

“Why do you say that?” I asked. She threw her head back and moaned. She then leaned over and whispered in my ear, “your voice is so low and seductive”. I rolled my eyes, you had to be kidding me. “There is no way that you two aren’t related because there is no way that you two are friends. I mean, no offense but look at her and then look at you”. Did this girl really just say that? I peeled her off of me and moved away. What the fuck?

“Brinsley!” A guy walked over and put his arms around her. “I knew you were going to show up. You couldn’t resist me, huh?”

I rolled my eyes at the ape’s arms around her. I watched Brinsley lean in and disgust and jealousy rolled in my stomach.

Well, if you can’t beat them, join them right?

I put my arms around the blond and whispered into her ear, “What’s your name, gorgeous?”

“Ashleigh” she responded, grinding against me.

I grabbed her hand and took her inside the party. I needed a goddamn drink.
