Season 1 Episode 7

Kiana POV

"Hey..." It was strange to see my mother in the kitchen, sipping a steaming cup of coffee these days. We live under the same roof and I couldn't get a hold of her. Plus, I've spent the most of my time with Stefan. "I was hoping to take you to the spa tomorrow."

Someone cleared their throat, and I turned around to discover it was Jace. He was dressed in khakis shorts, a basic polo shirt, and that jacket tied across his large shoulder, not to mention an off-kilter smile that would make any mature man flee for their life.

"I didn't see you over there." Or perhaps I did, but I chose to ignore him. My mother was the bench and he was the ass; you seldom see one without the other these days, which is rather irritating. Why is it so tough to spend a day with my mother?

"Do you need some breakfast, Jace?"

Did she just asked Jace if he wants some breakfast what about Stefan and I.

Do we now have to fend for ourselves? Did I miss something in my life? Was Jace now a member of our family?

"Not at all, sweetie. You have nothing but carbs in that cupboard. I'm trying to keep it trimmed for the women."

I opened the fridge door to cover my face. I started mocking him and couldn't stop laughing. With an insane smile like that, no lady would look at him. I returned my gaze to my mother just in time to notice her flushing.

That was the most clichéd and cringe-worthy line I've ever heard in my million years on this planet.

I went back through the fridge and started dumping things on the counter since some food was going rotten.

"Did you happen to hear me?" My mother voice embedded in my thoughts. I sighed and rolled my eyes. I really didn't want to talk to her. She can spend her entire existence with Jace for all I care more Stefan for me.

"What?" I snapped. I groaned, being rude to my mother is something I rarely do. She had done her best her entire life, and that was enough. But seeing Jace get all the attention makes me uncomfortable. Jace is a grown guy; he has a house and can prepare his own meals.

"I'll try to work something out for this week."

I'm quite sure she mentioned that last week. That she'd 'work' something out for this week. We're in this week, and she's pushing it off till next week. She could feed me if I was 5 years old with such nonsense.

I shut the fridge and walked over to the garbage can, which was half full and could use some more. "How is Stefan, your wife? I didn't see her this morning." I emphasized.

I noticed her rolling her eyes and shrugging from the corner of my eye. What precisely is going on between the two? All I knew was that having Jace around while a couple isn't on good terms is bad. It was never good.

"Probably running or trying to keep up with art."

I sneered, dumping the ruined food into the bin with a harsh thud. She was the only one I saw drifting. I didn't hear the door rattle open until late yesterday night, which was beyond my bedtime, which was midnight. I knew her old ass was inebriated because she was staggering and randomly banging on the wall like a blind mouse. She's too old to be doing all of those things. She should put it aside for me. Instead, I'm the one wearing an avocado face mask and a long nightgown, glaring at her from the top of the stairs.

"The only person who is busy here is you."

"Kiana, come on. Those college funds will not pay for themselves." Most of us as kids would keep silent and think to ourselves that we were being ungrateful for asking our parents for more time. But, of course, I did the inverse.
