CHRISTMAS, the happiest day of every kids year. Or, was supposed to be. If you had loads of money and didn't live in a trailer park and had good parents who didn't leave for months at a time.

Scarlett was on the verge of a panic attack. The diner was closed for Christmas, people wanted a holiday to spend with their family and all that crap.

Do people not understand that she needs to put food on the table for her and her little brother? And on top of that, buy presents! Oh god, if Santa was real she would be begging for extra toys.

Shawn may have been a troubled kid, with the absence of their parents and the non-existent money they had saved up but he was good. He never done anything terrible.

Does stealing from your uncle count as bad? Well, they returned the uniform so it definitely doesn't count, right?

And by return, she means broke back into his office and snuck it back into the closet then ran back to the trailer so he didn't notice his niece and nephew.

So that morning, instead of going to school—she ran around town all day, trying to pick up extra cash. Wether it was off of the sidewalk or asking the locals like a homeless person.

It was really pathetic, but she would do anything for Shawn and if this is what she needed to do to buy him something that he would enjoy, then so be it.

SCARLETT was walking down the street, looking down at the sidewalk, searching for any lucky pennies.

But it was kind of hard, considering everything was covered in snow. She did have some money saved up, and the Matthews invited her and Shawn over for Christmas dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. Matthews knew what the Hunters were going through, mainly because Scarlett seemed to be more stressed the past few days, and Shawn was avoiding any topic that had the word money or toys in it.

Amy and Alan wanted to help, but they knew Scarlett. She didn't take any charity and she sure as hell hated when people pitied her.

So they tried to be as casual about it as possible when inviting them over.
