"Jee theek hai Jaffri sahab, mein zara begum sahiba se pooch ke final karta hoon. Jee jee, buhat shukriya."
Umeed kept eying her husband attentively as he paced around the room, putting out his best friendly, yet formal voice on the phone. What further spiked her curiosity was hearing her mention in the conversation. One thing Farjaad was very particular about was the separation of his professional and personal life, especially since the experience of Umeed working in his office went sour.
"Jee, hoti hai mulaqat phir jald, In Sha Allah. We'll discuss this over dinner. Allah Hafiz."
Seeing him cut the call was Umeed's cue to jump into her questioning phase.
"Buhat khush gappiyan lag rahi thein raat ke is pehar?"
Farjaad sat down on his side of the bed, placing his phone on the side table and stretching his legs.
"Haan, wo Jaffri sahab hein, hamaray board of directors mein hotay hein, un ki call thi. Aik naya project launch karna hai, us ke silsilay mein kuch baat karni thi."
"Haan to is sab mein mera zikar kahan se aaya?"
"Oh haan, yaad aaya, wo kal dinner pe bula rahay thay humein, mene un ko to kaha hai ke tum se pooch ke batata hoon, but I don't think kal ka hamara koi plan hai, to un ko keh doon ke hum aa jayein gay?"
Umeed jumped straight up from her semi-lying position as she sat on her knees, facing Farjaad.
"Kal? As in Saturday?"
"Haan..."
"Impossible hai kal to. Unhein kahein kisi aur din rakh lein"
"Kyun? Kal hum ne kaheen jana hai?"
"Kal hum kaheen ja hi nahi saktay, no plans."
"Kyunnn, aisa kya hai kal? Anniversary to nahi hai, na kisi ki birthday hai, na Valentines hai, na...."
"FARJAAD! Kal India Pakistan ka match hai! World Cup ka! Kal ke liye no plans!"
Farjaad stared at her blankly. Was she serious?
"Seriously Umeed?"
He raised an eyebrow at her, unable to comprehend her reasoning.
"Is mein itna hairaan honay wali kya baat hai? India Pakistan ka match to nahi miss ho sakta, sorry."
"Aik match ke peeche hum apni commitments to nahi chor saktay"
"Abhi commitment hui kahan hai? Aap ne kaha tha na biwi se pooch ke batayein gay, keh dijiye ke wo busy hai kaheen"
"Umeed...."
"Farjaad please, is aik cheez pe no compromise, ye nahi miss kar sakti mein"
Farjaad let out a deep sigh, still not able to understand how this made any sense. But the innocent look on Umeed's face with the pouted lips and the batting of her eyelashes was his weakness, and Umeed knew that very well.
"Acha okay, mein mana kar deta hoon Jaffri sahab ko, par this makes no sense"
"Uff Farjaad! Kabhi to aap aisi bore baatein na kiya karein! India Pakistan ke world cup match se zyada important kuch ho sakta hai? Ye aik din hi to puray saal ki raunaq hota hai"
Farjaad raised his eyebrows seeing her over-dramaticize the match, going on an on about how no other plans could be made. He lost interest in whatever reasons she was giving. Everyday he came across a new side of her. There was not a single dull moment with this girl.
