The Mikaelsons were getting ready for the ball they were hosting.

Rebekah was getting her nails painted. Finn and Kol were getting their suits fitted. Elijah was polishing his shoes and Kara was getting fitted into a dress.

Kol was standing in front of a mirror, admiring his reflection. "Kara, tell me how handsome I am."

"Oh, Kol, you know I can't be compelled," Kara told him.

Finn smiled.

Klaus walked in, looking at Rebekah. "You went after Elena? What is wrong with you?"

"Here we go," Rebekah said.

Kol sat down on the arm of the sofa.

"Do you want another dagger in your heart?" Klaus asked.

"Again with the dagger threats?" Kol said. "Don't you have any other tricks?"

Klaus looked at him. "Oh, go back to staring at yourself."

"And who are you, my father?" Kol asked.

"No, Kol, but you are in my house," Klaus answered.

Kol stood. "Then, perhaps we should go outside."

Klaus and Kol stood inches apart, daring each other to make a move.

Esther walked in, her long hair had been cut shoulder-length and she was wearing a modern dress. "Enough. Niklaus. Come."

Klaus walked away, following his mother.

Kol turned to watch him, smiling.

Esther and Klaus walked into the next room.

"Rebekah wasn't even out of her box a day before she tried to ruin my life," Klaus said. "What happened to peace? Acceptance? Family?"

Esther looked at him. "You put daggers in their hearts. You want them to go down on their knees and kiss your feet for reuniting them?"

"So, it's a crime to want our family to be as we were?" Klaus asked.

"You need to give it time, Niklaus," Esther answered. "I've had a thousand years on the Other Side to be angry and to heal. I'm here to make sure this family does the same."

Klaus shook his head. "I just don't understand. I killed you and still you forgive me."

Esther stepped closer to him. "It's been my dream for a thousand years that this family could be as one. Forgiveness is not a chore. It's a gift. Now, who are you bringing to the ball this evening?"

Klaus chuckled. "Don't be ridiculous. You're lucky I'm even going."

"Well, I wish you would reconsider," Esther told him. "It's going to be a magical evening."
