Lovely Nuisance

It was a glorious day with the sun blazing overhead, but Trellis didn't feel any glory whatsoever.

There was a battle looming nearby, and he couldn't risk having his guard down. The scar across his left side of the face had been throbbing lately. Almost as if, his father's presence was somehow taunting him. The thought repelled him so much, he almost threw up.

There wasn't much more to do, so Trellis had wanted to enjoy (enjoy as much as one can with a war stirring) the evening to himself when naturally, the red-head caught his eye.

The very same red-head whom Trellis had shared a lovely kiss with weeks before.

Emily was in the midst of a heated conversation with Vigo by the stairs (they always did--they were like the perfect sibling bickering duo you  never knew you needed) as her hair bobbed up and down her shoulders. Total platonic staring all right!  Trellis gave a quick reminder to his lovely readers. Just forget that kiss ever happened.

It was the most out of character thing the king could be accused of. Somehow, even without Emily's enchanted stick, (trust me, that thing can kick some serious booty in the arena) her loaded weaponries or her armor she could intimidate Trellis pretty easily. Albeit these days, he thought; it went beyond her piercing gaze and the hypnotizing hue of her hair.

As if on cue, Emily's eyes rest on Trellis', and Trellis had a wave of nausea surge through him. She quickly averted her gaze, probably sharing the same feeling. Or was that too much to hope for?

Emily's POV

Talking about the situation with Vigo wasn't nearly as easy as it was with Trellis. He looked dead suspicious about the whole thing and I had a hard time looking un-dubious trying not to reveal Moze at the same time. I was not sure of the consequences it came with just yet-- Trellis may had been an exception.

"I really am not all that sure about that, but I will tell you that I share the same feeling of discomfort as yours; almost as if a menacing presence is by..." Vigo stroked his gray beard, looking into the horizon out the hall window. He seemed even tired than usual. "...so I will give you the benefit of doubt for now. We all ought to keep our guards up."

Ha, as if I hadn't been doing that ever since stepping foot on this planet Alledia. Though I decided pointing that out could be considered rude. I figured that was the end of the conversation.

"See you around, Vigo." He nodded.

I turned on my heel and left, only to be graced with the beautiful expression on King Trellis' face. No seriously, he looked like he smelt some stale tuna (Trust me, Elves despise  that thing).

I felt my feet go numb for a split second when I realized he was staring right at me. Ohh-kay? Hopefully that didn't mean some hostile feelings were coming my way.

Trellis' POV

Emily the red head continued on her path, giving a slight tilt as a sign of the acknowledgement of very my existence. "You didn't tell him about Moze, did you?"

"Well, no. Wait, were you eavesdropping?" She knit her eyebrows.

"As the very ruler of this land, I don't think I am to be deprived to be made aware of any knowledge my people passes around."

"In short you were eavesdropping on us."

"Paraphrasing that, well, yes--"

"and I happy to know you consider us your people." Is it just me or was there a smile on the corner of her lip when she said that? (AMULET FANS IYKYK BOOK 6 PRINCE OF THE ELVES THAT MOMENT GRAHHHH)

"Okay what's that supposed to mean--"

And there she goes, flashing that bewitching, maleficent smirk and swiftly fleeing the scene. I continued staring at the place she stood before leaving until I came to the guilty realization.

This red head nuisance, I swear to the skies-- never carve such a creature ever so intricately that even labelling them as annoying would feel so wrong and infuriating.

I chuckled when I realized the tone I was thinking in. Emily hated whenever I pulled out flowery language-- rather in her words "the Shakespearean soul possesses thy soul again". What could I possibly comment on that other than the fact that reading with Uncle Virgil had payed off.

My heart felt heavy thinking of Uncle Virgil. I wondered where he was-- hopefully somewhere he's being taken good care of. He was the closest thing to family I had and even he had been wrongfully taken from my memory--and life.

I walked over to the terrace, slowly overcome with feelings of nausea. It was so infuriating-- I had never felt this way before. Gazing down the terrace, I found Emily running to-and-fro with a frantic expression on her face. And that was the last thing I remembered.

The effect was instantaneous. The moment when Trellis' head hit the ground, he blacked out and went into a trance. Fortunately, there had been enough people around to carry him to his room-- and it was all chaos. He started muttering incoherent words as the elven soldiers hurried him up to his room. Riva rushed after them all and gave a side glance to Emily as if it were all her doing. (LIKE IM SORRY I AINT TRYNNA PORTRAY RIVEES AS A VILLAIN BUT SOME O' YA'LL TREVA SHIPPERS BE FORCIN ME TO LIKE NAUR ONLY TREMILY; I beg your pardon for the inconvenience.)

Soon enough, everyone circled The Elf King, Trellis' bed, they shuffled around to make room for Luger. After all, he was the one who had warned them about the spirits of beyond. Trellis' amulet glowed blue as Luger stepped closer. He took a long, knowing look at Trellis and spoke in a loud clear voice for the tense crowd to hear, "He has, indeed been summoned by the spirits if beyond."
