The hidden Pureblood (Vampire Knight fanfic)

Chapter Four

   The rest of the night was pretty uneventful. After helping Rima I had returned to my post. Kattana had a surprised look on her face when I had returned. I slowly made my way to her and sigh, "What is up with the look I'm being given, little sister?"

   "I've never seen you react to a scream that fast before. It was like you had no hesitation. You heard the scream and were jumping off the wall all in the same second," she smiles warmly at me as I laugh.

   "After all the times I didn't act fast enough in the past, and all the years I I've been doing these shifts. It has become easy to act without hesitation," I turn away from her and look down as I take the object Rima had given me out of my pocket. Looking at it I smile once again.

   "What is that big sister?" She tilts her head with confusion seeing as I hadn't had it before I helped Rima.

   "The girl who screamed was Rima. Night class student. She got swarmed by day class and after I helped her she put this in my hand," I lifted it up for Kattana to see. It was a palm sized bat formed out of obsidian and diamond. The moonlight glimmers off it gently.

   Kattana stares at it for some time then laughs, "So she knew you back before you left somehow then to be able to get your favorite animal and gems correct I guess."

   I laugh again as I gently put it back in my pocket, "I guess so.... question is....how did she know me back then and why wait till now to even tell me...it doesn't make sense. I've been at this school for so many years. Not to mention she had no reaction to my curse..."

   Kattana sighs and shrugs checking the time, "Our shift is over. Let's get some sleep. Maybe we will figure out who she was to us after we have slept. Also Kaname wants you to meet him at his room in an hour."

   I look at her and watch as she rushes off to the moon dormitory then look back down at my hand. The bat seemed so familiar and it scared me that my favorite gems were used to make it. I sigh as I pocket the bat then jump off the wall walking to the sun dormitory. All lights were out but I wanted to check on Yuuki.

   Upon entering I sigh once again heading up the stairs. Stairs I used to always use to go to my room. A life I would never have again because Kattana found me. I stop outside Yuuki's door and hesitantly knock on the door, "Yuuki it's Zero...." There was silence but then the door opened and she let me in closing it behind me.

   "Is everything okay Zero? You haven't come to my door in awhile..." She watched me sit on her bed her eyes full of worry. I didn't want to talk I just wanted an escape. But at this time my twin would be asleep. I wanted to just stay in bed and not leave, but I had duties that I couldn't just run away from.

   Yuuki realized I was in one of my moods and quickly walked over laying down beside me, "You can stay with me tonight if you want. Kaname will understand you not going to him. You've been through a lot lately. Just get some rest," she waits for me to lay all the way down then curls up to me her head on my chest.

   "Thanks Yuuki, it means a lot...I just feel safe around you. I don't like it in the Moon Dorm.... everyone is after me because of my curse," I sigh as I realize Yuuki had fallen asleep. I gently brush her hair out of her face. I knew who she truly was. We were friend before all this. But it wasn't my secret to share.

   After a couple hours of just watching Yuuki sleep she had to wake up and head to class. I took the opportunity to get some sleep while she was gone. After all I would have to face an upset Kaname when I arrived at the front gate to walk with the others to class. I need sleep or I will be a ticking time bomb of attitude just waiting to explode.
