Underneath the Mistletoe by Sia played on your phone as you did your make up getting ready for Joe's holiday dinner. Your hair was up in hot rollers, wanting to leave it down in curls tonight. You were doing your make up for tonight which consisted of a bit of a subtle gold smokey eye and a red lip to go with your dress. You were starting to become really nervous about this whole thing, the entire day you fought against yourself to call or text Joe and lie about feeling under the weather to get out of it but you knew you wouldn't forgive yourself over it, if you did that to him. As you focused on your make up, making sure it was as perfect as you could have it, there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" You called out. "Oh, look at you! Reminds me of the time your pops and I flew in to see you and Junior go off to your prom that year." Nana says walking into the room with a smile on her face as she held something in her hands. "Hey Nana, sorry I'm going to miss taco night tonight." You pout at her as you turn back around to continue your make up. "Oh please, we can have tacos any day. Tonight is special and I'm glad you're going out. I know being around your family 24 hours a day for a month isn't easy. Hell, I'm little sick of you all already." She teases sitting on a seat next to you. "So you do want to get rid of me!? Wow Nana." You scoff pretending to be hurt which made her laugh.

"I came up here because I don't know if you had any jewelry picked out and thought you'd like to wear this." Your Nana places a vintage velvet blue box in front of you. You smile and open it, quickly you realize it was the pearl & gold earrings and necklace she wore on her wedding day when she married Pops 55 years ago. "Oh Nana, there's no way I could wear this! This is so special, a family heirloom! Shouldn't this be saved for Ashlie to keep it in the family? She should wear it on her wedding day or something." You shake your head. "Oh Honey but you are family! Just because Mark is your step father doesn't make you any less apart of this family. I love my grand children all the same but lets be honest here, Ashlie would never wear this on her wedding day." She says making you laugh as you had tears in your eyes. "Now, if it doesn't go with your dress, I completely understand but I still want you to keep it. Save it for something important, that way after I'm gone a piece of me and your Pops will be with you forever and you can even pass it down to your kids if you want." She smiles. At this point you had tears streaming down your face. "Aw Nana, thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me." You hug her. "I always knew how much you loved the set. Now, I'll let you finish your make up before Joey comes to pick you up." She pats your cheek after pulling apart. "Thanks Nana, I'll be down soon." You smile at her as she gets up to leave the room, closing the door behind her. You couldn't believe that just happened but its a moment you'd cherish for the rest of your days.

An Hour Later:

Spritzing some perfume on yourself, you take one last look in the mirror of yourself. You were dressed and ready but still felt extremely nervous. You were overthinking everything, your hair, your make up, your dress, your shoes and even kept overthinking your choice on agreeing to this. You take a deep breath, grabbing your long coat and small clutch heading downstairs. The family had left about 20 minutes earlier to go see a Christmas show/play which you only learned they were going to see this morning. You felt a little guilty for missing out on that with the family but you had promised Joe and your family wasn't the type to hold it against you. You were also happy they wouldn't be here to embarrass you when you left with Joe, this was already awkward enough and you did not need their crazy comments to add onto this moment.

You walk towards your bag you packed to change out of this outfit later. It was going to be freezing tonight and you did not want to risk getting sick before Christmas. You find the key Pops left you on the kitchen counter so you could lock the door and get in later in case they were all in bed already. The doorbell rings and suddenly your hands star to feel clammy and your heart beats a little faster. You felt stupid for feeling this way about Joe. You walk over to the door and take a deep breath before opening the door and seeing Joe. He was dressed in a black turtle neck, a dark red long coat, black pants, with a nice diamond chain around his neck and some expensive sneakers. He looked so incredibly handsome and you could smell his nice expensive cologne from where you stood, Joe had left you without words for a moment that you didn't even notice he also had not said a word to you as he looked at you and how you looked.
