Jaymee

Saturday morning, I was greeted by one of Harry's nurses as I stepped into the cancer ward of the hospital. I nodded my head curtly at the woman, holding my purse from Hollister close to my chest.

My heels clicked against the tiled floor as I made my way into Harry's room.

A smiling Harry awaited me, sitting straight up in his bed, surprisingly.

"Good morning." I gave him a quick pat on the head and sat down next to him. Harry breathed heavily in response, his eyes wandering over to his heart monitor in fear.

My eyes did the same. "Your okay." I said. "Your still going strong."

But as I said it, I noticed that the monitor was making a weird noise.

While it should be going beep. Beep. Beep. Beep., the machine was swaying between beeeeep. Beep-beep. Beeeeep. Beep-beep.

It was scaring the living crap out of me and Harry.

"Has it ever done that before?" I asked.

"O-one-once." Hard answered. For some reason, he was still smiling, but not with his eyes. He looked like he was about to cry, despite his large grin.

Without bothering to tell Harry I was walking out of his room for a minute, I left and searched for Dr. Gill, who was sitting behind the main desk, typing something on a computer.

She smiled as I approached her. "Hi...Jaymee, isn't it?"

I nodded. "Yes ma'am."

Noticing the frightened look in my eye, she asked "Is everything okay?"

"Erm, I don't know. Harry's heart monitor-"
Before I could even finish my sentence, she was already at the door of Harry's room. I followed, more scared than I was just a few seconds ago due to Dr. Gill's strange behavior.

"-a large amount of his medicine. Yea, I know, but I don't care at this point. The dosage that he is being supplied with now is just not cutting it." I heard Dr. Gill's voice ad I stepped through Harry's door.

She was on the phone while she was pressing various buttons on the heart monitor.

"Thank you. I'll be there soon to pick it up." And with that, she hung up the phone. Harry motioned for me to come over by his side, which I did.

Dr. Gill stopped pressing buttons and stared admiringly at Harry. "Your okay, sweetheart."

"W-what was messs-messed with H-har-harry?" Harry stuttered, findling with the sheets he was covered in.

"Well, your heart was having tiny issues. Nothing to fuss about." She replied.

Uh, sounds like something to worry about, especially since the heart is the most vital muscle in a person's body.

Harry nodded slowly, eyeing me up and down. "Jay-jaymee? J-jaymee okayyy?"

I turned my head slightly, staring at my horrid expression in the mirror that hung close by the door. My hair looked sleek and shiny, but that was possibly the only attribute that looked good in me. My eyes were watery, and my mouth hung wide open. I was frazzled, and I looked terrifying.

Dr. Gill excused herself from the room as she got a call on her phone. I turned back towards Harry.

"I'm fine." I sniffed. "Just worried...about you."

Harry smiled and reached for my hand. I happily took it and intertwined my fingers with his.

It seems as if I've began to care for the weak, cute boy laying down in this hospital bed near me. Even after a few short days, I know I have made a new friend. I don't want anything to happen to him.

"H-harrrry is Okay." Harry sniffed.

I nodded my head, agreeing with him. "Harry is okay."
