" That doesn't mean I like it. " Y/n mutters bluntly as she handed Kunimi his water bottle, crossing her arms.
" Now stop fighting and go do your best. "

Making her way back to the coach, she stood beside him. " They're still just as childish. "

The coach chuckled and nods.

" Oikawa seems serious today. "

" Of course, he does. "

She has threatened him pretty good this morning. But she knew it was because the match was against Karasuno that he was really so serious.

He had to skip the first half of the match because of his injured knee, but now he was back in the game.

Honestly, Y/n doesn't recall ever not seeing him. She's always seen him around since her first year.

Everywhere. When she moved from Tokyo, he had been at the station with some kid.

When she reached her house, he was leaning against the gate of the house besides hers.

When she went to school, her first day of high school to Aoba Jousai, he was there surrounded by girls squealing around him.

Then she chose to be a manager for the volleyball team and he was the soon-to-be captain. It's been a year and a half and she's still trying to understand him.

He's usually a playful — very playful, can get annoying at times — a little prideful and cocky too.  But she wondered how people even believe the front he puts up.

He is completely different on the inside, she knows at least that much. She doesn't blame him for putting on a different face, everyone does it in some ways.

She's just curious as to why he does that.

She can't say she's exactly close to him. They've been friends ever since he found out she's the manager of his volley ball team.

He was irritating the first few days, flirting around and teasing her with nicknames, but that didn't seem of any offense so she had let it slide.

After getting to know each other a little better, his flirting and playful personality had decreased.

He was more...normal around her.
She liked that about him, she was glad he could be the way he is with her.

She wasn't close with any of them, actually. She couldn't bring herself to have a best friend when the previous one had left her with some good amount of trauma.

She kept them at a distance, even if they tried.

Even Iwaizumi had tried a few times to know more about her as a manager but she had kept it formal. He had gotten the message and left her alone after that.

No one pried and she was glad about that.

Her eyes fell on the black haired boy Oikawa has been glaring at. " Do they know each other? " Because the guy from Karasuno is not backing down either.

" Yeah, that's Kageyama Tobio. "

Y/n makes an O with her lips. She's heard so much of the setter, so many different names but she also knows Oikawa despised the kid.

It's strange, their relationship. She can see they really admire each other but she also understands wanting to rival their idols.

She would do the same.....

She did the same.

But for her, it ended badly.

For her, it had been friendly but escalated quickly. She hoped that won't be the case with Oikawa and Kageyama.

A smile stretched on her lips as she saw Oikawa smile and do his signature pose, " Yaho. Nice to see you,
Tobio-kun. "

She hoped.

The second half set started after the time out and just like that, Oikawa had hypnotized her and everyone else.

She has wanted to tell him how beautiful his play is ever since she saw him, but she can't bring herself to.

In fact, the whole team was such a perfect team. They all had individual talents, and coming together as team enhanced those abilities.

Karasuno wasn't that bad either, she noticed.

" They're not bad, but their team is
unorganized. " she muttered, but the Karasuno coaches give her side eyes.

She held back a cringe, not meaning any offense. Coach Irihata beside her chuckled, " Yes, that's true. But with training, surely...."

Y/n nods, her eyes on the shortest orange haired guy that zoomed across the court and spiked so quickly that she had to take a second to process it.

She froze, eyes slightly widening as she gazed at him, breath stolen. The set was perfect, the spike was just immaculate. That was a duo formed by devil himself.

She found herself smiling as the two first years on Karasuno cheered, her eyes flitting to Oikawa who stood there, unmoving.

He had missed the ball, of course. But she knew he hesitated because Hinata Shoyu had unintentionally chosen to hit the ball on Oikawa's bad side.

His right leg was hurt, he'd make it worse if he tried to recieve that ball. But she could already see it, the guilt and annoyance that pooled pooled his caramel brown eyes.

He was regretting it.

She flinched as the air tensed around the Seijou team, and that affects Karasuno. That meant Oikawa was even more serious now.

She pursed her lips.

The silence makes her heart hammer as Oikawa spun the ball in his hand. His serves were known to be no-touch serves, the power he used was no match.

She sucked in a sharp breath, lost in trance yet once again as Oikawa jumped in the air after tossing the ball. His form was enchanting and she couldn't help but wish she was playing too.

It ached her, to be standing at the sidelines of a court she adores so much....but the bad memories stopped her every time she tried.

She felt it before she could notice it, the zooming of the ball and her hand instinctively flew up. She felt the force of the ball hitting her palm harshly, spinning before it fell to the ground with a dribble.

" Sorry. " she mumbled, picking it up and handing it to Iwaizumi who stood in front of her. Y/n feels like everyone was staring at her, it makes her terrified inside.

" Are you okay, Y/n-chan? "

She looked at him, nodding. " Of course, go on. " Hesitantly, Iwaizumi leaves and the game resumes with much more tension.

" Is your hand alright? Perhaps you should go to the nurse. " Coach Irihata insisted, " Oikawa's hits are usually very powerful. That too the ball bounced on the ground..."

" I'm alright, coach. "

She stared at her shoes, the sensation of her palm burning making her body heat up. A wave of relief spread through her slowly, the familiar feeling taking her back.

She wanted to play.

So bad.
