It had been three weeks since Mingyu had last visited the orphanage. During this period, he had been overwhelmed with assignments that consumed most of his time. Nonetheless, his boyfriend, Wonwoo, had managed to visit the orphanage once during Mingyu's absence, carrying his heartfelt regards. Today, Mingyu planned to stop by the orphanage right after his classes to reconnect with the children he had missed so much.Much to his delight, Wonwoo decided to accompany him, mentioning how much he missed the kids’ cheerful company. After arriving, Mingyu was taken aback by an unexpected yet heartwarming sight. The usually reticent boy, who had not spoken a word to Mingyu during previous visits, was now merrily chanting and laughing with a girl of the same age. While he wasn't engaging with everyone just yet, this development was a significant step forward. Meanwhile, the girl seemed to be having a minor argument with Haruto, but it was clear they were getting along well despite the occasional bickering. Mingyu felt a sense of satisfaction seeing the positive changes and the growing bonds among the children.
Mingyu was elated when Haruto engaged with him, even if it was just a few more words than their last encounter. His joy overflowed to the point where he offered Haruto a piggyback ride, carrying him around with boundless energy. "Who's the kid here, you or him?" Yuna quipped, watching Mingyu's antics with mild exasperation as Haruto, clearly not enjoying the ride, grimaced. In response, Mingyu stuck his tongue out in a playful, childish way, making Yuna sigh or rather facepalm herself in exasperation.
"Hey, Won, how were you so sure last time that Haruto would be okay?" Mingyu asked his boyfriend, who was engrossed in a game on his phone while sitting in the passenger seat. Mingyu glanced at his boyfriend from the corner of his eye, his brow slightly furrowed with curiosity, before returning his focus to the road. The hum of the car engine provided a soothing background noise as they drove under the streetlights, illuminating their path through the quiet night.
Wonwoo hummed softly and turned off his phone, his focus shifting entirely to the serene expression on his boyfriend's face. The gentle glow from the streetlights danced across Mingyu's handsome features, highlighting the contours of his face. "Haruto seemed restless when we had last visited," Wonwoo began, a smile tugging at his lips. "You know, even when he was just sitting, staring outside of the window or looking at a picture book, his eyes would dart around every corner like a curious cat. It was as if he wanted company but was too shy to engage," he continued, his eyes reflecting the myriad colors playing across Mingyu's face.
Mingyu, who had recently decided to grow his hair long, had a few loose strands that persistently fell across his face since he didn't like using a rubber band. Wonwoo lifted his hand and gently tucked the stray hairs behind Mingyu's ear. Mingyu's heart warmed at the simple, affectionate gesture, and he smiled in response. If he hadn't focused on driving at that moment, he knew he would have leaned over and kissed Wonwoo as if there was no tomorrow, letting him know just how much he appreciated him, loved him, and loved everything about him.
