Lilly's POV

"J-James?" I stuttered, scooting away and frantically moving to dry my face, "What are you doing here?" I hated this guy. But he couldn't be that bad? He just sat here with me for the past hour when he probably has better things to do, right?

"I saw what happened and I felt so bad to see you hurt that I came to help." He said, an innocent smile on his face, quiet in that obnoxious way of his that made everything loud.

"I didn't need your help," I answered on instinct, then blushed, "But ... um... thanks, anyway."

Why was I so flustered? I had never been this close to him before. His eyes glistened with sympathy, an odd out-of-place kindness. I had never noticed how nice his eyes were. They were a very pretty and dazzling hazel, reminding me of fall and spring and something warm and... UGH. Aren't I supposed to hate him?! He's usually so annoying, constantly asking me out. But, I have noticed that he changed over the summer though. He has been nicer, he studies more often, isn't as loud, and has cut down the number of pranks he pulls. Shut up! YOU DONT LIKE JAMES BLOODY POTTER!

"Um... Lily?" James snapped me out of my thoughts

"Oh ya, so thanks."

I got up and ran. I wasn't completely sure where I was going. I needed to get away. I needed these thoughts of James out of my head, needed to be alone, to grieve the death of my closest friendship since childhood.

"Lily!" I heard James shout after me. I didn't stop, not for a second.
