As Alexandra settled back into her life in the family's grand London townhouse after her year in the city, the weight of her newfound identity pressed upon her more heavily each day. She couldn't ignore the growing attraction she felt toward women, an awakening she couldn't explain or deny. Her encounters with women during her year in London had ignited a fire within her, and she couldn't simply extinguish it.

Nights were the hardest for Alexandra. She would lie in her opulent bed, shrouded in silken sheets, staring up at the canopy, and wrestle with the truth that had taken root in her heart. She wasn't the dutiful daughter her parents wanted her to be. She was someone entirely different, someone whose desires and identity clashed with the traditional values that had been instilled in her since birth.

The internal struggle was relentless. Alexandra knew that if she ever revealed her true self to her family, it would shatter their expectations, their image of who she was supposed to be. Her parents had always been pillars of British high society, upholding the family's reputation with unwavering dedication. To them, any deviation from the path they had set would be seen as a betrayal.

But Alexandra couldn't continue to suppress her feelings. She couldn't pretend to be someone she wasn't, and the fear of living a life inauthentic to herself weighed heavily on her. It was during one of those sleepless nights that a plan began to take shape.

She would need to find a way to break free, to discover her true self without the constant judgment of her family. Alexandra's gaze fell upon her bedside table, where a brochure for an internship program in New York caught her eye. The idea had been planted in her mind during her time in London, and now it began to bloom.

If she could secure an internship in New York, she would be thousands of miles away from the prying eyes of her family. It would offer her the freedom to explore her identity without the suffocating expectations that weighed her down in London. But she knew she couldn't reveal her plan to anyone, not even Emma.

The tension within the family was palpable. Her parents had noticed her growing distance, her restlessness. They attributed it to the typical restlessness of youth, unaware of the internal battle raging within their daughter. And Alexandra played her part, attending family gatherings, charity events, and social engagements with a smile that concealed her turmoil.

Late one evening, as Alexandra sat in the dimly lit library, her father, Charles Worthington, approached her. He was a tall, imposing figure, with salt-and-pepper hair and an air of authority that had served him well in his diplomatic career.

"Alexandra, my dear, we've noticed that something has been troubling you," he said, his voice gentle but tinged with concern. "Is there something you'd like to discuss?"

Alexandra hesitated for a moment, her heart racing. She couldn't bring herself to reveal her secret to her father, not yet. Instead, she mustered a faint smile and replied, "It's nothing, Father, just the usual worries of a young adult trying to find her place in the world."

Charles nodded, but there was a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Remember, my dear, we are here to guide you. Your mother and I have your best interests at heart."

Those words only deepened Alexandra's internal turmoil. She knew her parents loved her, but their expectations had become a cage that threatened to suffocate her true self. As her father left the library, she realized that her plan to escape to New York was becoming more imperative with each passing day. She needed to find a way to be true to herself, even if it meant leaving behind the life she had always known.

With her plan to secure an internship in New York firmly in her mind, Alexandra knew that she needed to take concrete steps to make it a reality. It wouldn't be easy to leave her family behind, but the prospect of living a life that was true to herself was a powerful motivator.
