abuse, yelling, and panic attacks

Izzy's POV

From as young as I can remember, my dad's always been angry. The first real encounter i can remember was when i was five.

"You're always spewing some fucking bullshit!" He screamed. I sat in my closet, holding my hands over my ears to try and block out the loud sounds of my father screaming at my mother. He screamed and she'd scream back.

"Izzy, Izzy come here." I heard my brother speak. I let out a sob, backing further into the closet so Dad wouldn't find me. Aaron opened the closet door and sat on the floor with me. "It's okay, Izzy. We're gonna go to Tommy's house, okay?"

"Tommy?" I asked, looking up at him.

"Yeah, we're gonna go see Norah and Tommy and Sarah." He spoke softly to me, trying to coax me out of the closet.

"He'll think I'm not c-cool because of im crying, Aaron." I cried, moving forward and leaning my head on his chest.

"No he won't, love." He whispered. I nodded and he helped me stand, He covered my ears with his hands, covering my own hands. He guided me quietly past our parents room which was just across the hall from mine. We walked down the stairs and he opened the front door.

"I'm going to get Jenna, okay? You go to Tom."

I nodded and ran out of the house and to the neighbors. I knocked on the door, wiping my face from the tears that were still falling.

"Come on in, love." Sarah said, grabbing my hand and leading me inside the house.

"Is that Izzy?!" Tommy asked loudly as he ran down the stairs. He paused upon seeing me. "Why are you sad?" He asked me, cocking his head as he looked at me. I shook my head and he just walked to me and hugged me.

"Wanna play pirates in my room?" He asked when he pulled back. I nodded and his face lit up. He grabbed my hand and bolted up the stairs with me behind him. "Here, you can be the captain this time."

He placed the pirate hat on my head and i giggled, looking at him with a smile.

"You look pretty!" He yelled and I giggled even more.

I was so young then and didn't understand anything. The only thing I understood from that day on was no matter what, I could always count on Tommy.

The next fight i can remember vividly was age seven.

"Why do you just fucking do this shit! All the fucking time!" My dad screamed. Glass shattered in the kitchen and i held a hand over my mouth to quiet the sobs. I wanted the yelling to stop. I wanted the fighting to end.

I opened my window and threw my pencils at Tommy's window. He walked over to window and looked at me with a questioning look.

"Are you okay?" He asked. I was thankful he was pretending he didn't know.

"I wanna come over but I can't go downstairs." I sobbed, wiping my eyes to see better.

"Climb through the window." He said after a few seconds of pondering. He opened his window more and told me to do the same.

"I'm scared." I cried, begging myself not to look down.

"It's okay, i'll be right here. I'll catch you if you fall." He said, unmoving from the window. I made it over and rolled onto his bed. He immediately pulled me into his arms and held me close.
