A cold wind shakes the leaves on unknown branches on unknown trees, and it passes as quickly as it came, leaving the woodland in an eerie quietness. The only sounds are the occasional snapping of twigs underfoot and the clicking of foreign insects hidden behind bushes. It's strangely peaceful in this unknown land, but everyone trudging on the ground are too exhausted to voice this fact.
After the incident with the bomb, although they had managed to stop it and restore the land, the damage had already been done.
The radiation was lethal and merciless, creeping up on its victims unexpectedly; thankfully, their technology had found a way to reverse the worst of its effects, but the patients had to spend months in locked rooms with no access to the outside world. Along with the steady rise in flux levels, alliances were broken and suddenly this family was split against each other.
Lewis sighs quietly as he looks back on their past, not so long ago that it made him feel comfortable. As the leader, he feels partly responsible for it-and as the man dislikes change, the sudden shift in this little family makes him feel uncomfortable with the silence stretching between them in this moment. Smoothing the black stubble on his jaw with a pale hand, he glances behind him to make sure everyone is still following him.
Simon is directly behind him, the ginger dwarf sluggishly dragging himself along loudly. He is usually full of energy and spouting nonsense about pigs and Jaffa cakes, but he had fallen silent hours ago. Directly behind him, Duncan-still in his pristine lab coat-is carrying a sleeping Kim delicately, as if she were a rare flower. He absent-mindedly strokes his apprentice's black hair, careful to avoid the purple flux on her face.
Behind him, metres apart from each other is Sips and Sjin. Their partnership ended with the bomb, as tension and regret caused the two to separate-Sjin left to pursue his dream of a farm, and Sips attempted to rebuild Sipsco in vain.
Rythian, Zoey and Teep are walking at a distance from them all. The mage still retains hatred for the ex-dirt duo and Duncan, but he still has not revealed his true feelings to his flaming haired apprentice which are blatantly obvious to the other members.
Martyn, Toby, Hannah and Nilesy walk in a group to the left of Lewis, who winces inwardly; along with the bomb, his relationship with Hannah exploded too, and he still wakes in the middle of the night expecting to see her curled up in his embrace.
A fluttering above him reminds Lewis of their final, and not entirely wanted, member. After the bomb, Ridgedog had stopped his sick survival games, but everyone loathed the demigod regardless.
The devil speaks, breaking Lewis' concentration.
"There is a clearing up ahead."
His voice makes Lewis and a few others visibly flinch. Soon, they have reached the clearing, and they wordlessly begin to set up tents. And as they enter them one by one, Lewis glances over to see Ridge, lying on the grass flat on his back, staring at the sky blankly. No one wanted to share their tent with him, and a pang of sympathy hit Lewis, before his hatred for the man replaces it, and he slips into his tent.
When he awakens, Ridge is already gone, and the others begin to set off in groups to create their new homes.
Note: Sorry about the boring stuff! Just had to introduce the back story a bit along with a few of the characters-don't worry! More characters are coming soon... :D Again, credit to the amazing moolock for my amazing front cover!
