One week later...

Vaani stood in the kitchen, a small smile playing on her lips as she felt a familiar pair of arms wrap around her waist. Shivank buried his head in her neck, planting soft kisses along her skin. She sighed contentedly, her hand slipping into his hair, pulling him closer as a soft moan escaped her lips.

“Shivank…” she whispered, turning around to face him, holding his arms as she looked into his tired, red-rimmed eyes. Despite the kiss, his face held a sad smile.

“Are you okay now?” she asked gently, cupping his face. He nodded, kissing her palm and leaning into her touch. Without a word, he took her hand, guiding her to the bed where he lay down with his head in her lap, arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

Vaani sighed, setting the plate she was holding aside as she stroked his hair. “Shivank, you disappeared for four hours straight. Will you tell me why?”

“Vaani... chod na, Mamma,” he muttered tiredly, nuzzling deeper into her waist.

She raised an eyebrow, “Tum koi ladki ke saath toh...”

He immediately lifted his head with a frown, giving her a grumpy look. “No, Mamma, what are you saying? I was all alone.”

“But why?” She caressed his face with concern, but he only clicked his tongue, refusing to answer. Hugging her tightly, he tried to change the subject when his eyes landed on the plate of bread and jam slices on the side table.

He chuckled softly. “Your period cravings involve bread and jam cake?”

She smiled, picking up the plate and making him sit up. “It’s my birthday in two minutes, Shivank.”

His smile faded at the realization, his arms slipping from her. “I’ll get the knife and candle,” she said quickly, running out of the room.

Shivank sat on the bed, guilt washing over him. When she returned, he immediately tried to apologize, “Vaani baby, I’m—”
