Fresh Start
Chapter 1
She pried her eyes open to discover she wasn't snuggled up to her teddy bear on her warm mattress. She observed her surroundings and realized she was in a hospital room. There were two figures in the corner of the room sitting on a couple of chairs. Her vision slightly blurred, she tried to make out the faces. It was no use, but she assumed it was family or friends.
As she observed the room, she felt sharp pains running through her body. She winced as her hands shook and her head throbbed. She couldn't feel her leg and when she looked down to see the problem-there wasn't one. Her eyes bulged as she saw the horrific sight. She was an amputee.
She doesn't remember what happened and how she ended up in this spot. All she knew, is what you know. Absolutely nothing.
Fluids pumped into her as she stared at the IV in her hand. She was shaking uncontrollably with fear for the worst. A doctor appeared through the door way with a shocked expression playing his face. He bolted out the door and she heard some shouting.
"SHE'S AWAKE! SHE'S AWAKE!" she heard repeatedly down the corridors of the hospital. She heard the door creak open and the same doctor re-appear with his eyebrows raised. He stared at her in disbelief as he crept toward her.
"Hello. I-I'm Doctor Shinley." The man said sweetly. He smiled at her but in his eyes she saw something different. She saw shock and desperation yet happiness and relief. She stared back at Doctor Shinley with confusion and interest.
"What do you remember?" He breathed out as reality came back to mind. She shook her head. "N-nothing." She choked out, her voice groggily and strained. His face fell and he stared at the ground in disappointment.
She honestly doesn't remember a thing. Not her name, friends, family, home, or where she even was. Or if she even HAD any of those. All she knew is that she's an amputee and in some kind of hospital. As she thought through everything she'd forgotten, the two figures on the other side of the room have joined their conversation an are staring at her with jaws dropped and eyes popped. She rose an eyebrow in confusion as the two looked at her dumbfounded. One was a middle-aged woman with curly brown locks and big brown eyes. She was slim and good looking for a woman who's in her 30s. The other was a young man who had the same framed face as the woman next to him. But instead, he had light brown, short hair a lighter pair of brown eyes. He looked about early 20s and was extremely tall.
She looked between them and the doctor who had looked at them knowingly. "What?" She croaked, throat sore and un-used.
"Hunny. It's me. Mom." The curly haired woman said as tears streamed down here face. She stared at her in disbelief. Her jaw dropped as if someone told her the world was going to end.

"Dude! Stop!" Charlie yelled though laughter. He was being chased by his best friend who was currently trying to tackle him. It was the last football practice before winter break started. Football practice was over for the day and they were running around the field when everyone else was in the locker room trying to put there pads and helmets in the wash room and get home. But not these two. Charlie and Tristan loved to run around like fools. They didn't mind being late to dinner or having to be rushed doing homework. They've been the best of friends for about 10 years now, since 3rd grade, and would always rather horse around with each other. Charlie and Tristan are both seniors at Candling High and both have spots on the football team. Charlie as running-back and Tristan was the receiver.
At Saint Louis Bay, Mississippi-everyone knows each other. If someone got in trouble, there wouldn't be any secrets.
The two boys were still running around and having fun until they heard a booming whistle. They turned to see the coach, red faced.
"Boys! Come! Here! Now!" Coach bursted as the boys looked down in shame. When coach got angry, there was no going back. He never liked the boys fooling around and wasting such needed energy on something so worthless. But the two of them still did it any ways. They jogged across the field towards coach and when the came up to him, they never made eye contact. He was fuming, with steam leaking from his ears.
"What did I tell you!" He shouted as his voice became rough.
"To not be fooling around on YOUR field. An to go to the locker room as your orders said." Charlie mumbled. Charlie always got angry when coach would do this. Can't they just have some fun? But he always managed to stay calm because he didn't want to make a bad impression.
"Good! So what are you doing out here when you jerseys should be in the washer! Huh!? That's what I thought!" He boomed again as the boys kept quiet, heads hung in shame.
"Now get in there and do your job!" He screeched. The boys nodded and jogged to the locker room. As they walked in, everyone was already dressed and the laundry pile was already over flowing. Charlie trotted to his locker and turned the dial to unlock it. A guy named Rick was the locker next to his and was still getting dressed. Most boys would take showers right after practice but Charlie usually did so at home.
"Did you hear about that girl who got in that huge accident? Heard she went to Douglas High, down the road. Not to far from here." Rick stated as he patted dry the sweat on his forehead.
"No, what happened?" Said Charlie, confused.
"They didn't say what happened but I did hear she's an amputee now. Not sure of her name though. Maybe Bell or something. Not to sure." He said before shutting his locker and stalking off. Charlie shrugged, not really knowing what he was talking about but still feeling a little bit bad.
He slipped on some loose shorts and a v-neck shirt before putting on some All star-Converse and slid out the locker room, waiting for Tristan.
As he waited, he couldn't help but think about the poor girl who had an incident. He wandered if he knew her.

She cleared her mind, trying to remember. But it was no use. She had no idea of what had happened. Doctor Shinley sat on the edge of the small hospital bed. He peered at his clip board and sighed.
"I'll tell you as much as I can and you'll just have to go with it. You can't pay for the surgery so until then, I'll tell you everything you need to know about your self." He said, smiling sweetly as she nodded.
"Your names Isabel. You have 3 brothers. Levi, who is 14; Marcus, who is 16; and a 19 year old named Craig. Craig was the one in here earlier with your mother. You mothers name is Tory and you dad, who's in the military, is Kyle. You live here in Saint Louis Bay, Mississippi and used to attend Douglas high. You are going to transfer schools and be going to Candling High. Do you have any questions so far?" He said. She shook her head, completely sinking everything in. Since all her memory is gone, she had enough room to store all of this.
"Here, you are just a normal girl. Try not to tell anyone your an amputee incase someone wants to bully you. You can't try out for any sports, but you can do after school clubs and everything like that. Now. I'll let your mom tell you the more personal details. Oh! And also, you might suffer amnesia so if you forget anything, don't be surprised." He finished off and walked out the door. Isabel waited for her mom to come in and tell her what she needs to know.
