Chapter 2
Isabel nods her head, trying to fill her mind with all the information her mother just gave her. Doctor Shinley had said to take it slow and receive information every other day. She's been in the ICU for about a week now and will not be released for another week or two.
She remembers faint memories from when she was little with her mom and dad but that's all. Other than that, she remembered nothing of the past.
The doctor walks into Isabel's room with a frown, looking at his clip board. She's half asleep because she's very tired, yet uncomfortable.
"Well, how are you feeling today?" Doctor Shinley asked her as he sat in a chair.
"Fine, I guess." She mutters, now sitting up and paying attention to what he is saying. He nods and scribbles something on his paper.
"Okay, listen. I'm going to be straight forward with this. You have a choice. You can either just leave the leg looking like what it is now, or get a prostetic leg. I recommend the prostetic because you'd be able to walk and if you always wear long pants, no one would ever know." He says, looking up at Isabel's frail body in the hospital bed.
"I want to be some-what like everyone else so I'll take the leg." She mumbles, fiddling with her thumbs.
"Alright. We'll have a specialist come tomorrow and try some out. Today, we are going to run a few test to measure your leg and what size you need." He states before walking out of the room.
She sits there for awhile, thinking of all the possibilities of what happened and why she lost her leg. She also thought of what kind of person she used to be, her friends or if she even had any. Her life just took a turn for the worst. It's very confusing, not knowing any of your past.
She pressed the assistance button and a nurse with frizzled hair came in and walked up to her bed. "Every thing alright?" She asked in a thick country accent.
"Yeah, but can you please ask my mom to come in here?" She said quietly. The nurse nodded and left the room. Seconds later, Isabel's mom walked in and smiled up to her. Her curls bouncing as she approached the bed.
"Hey. What's up?" She asked quietly. Isabel patted the space next to her, motioning for her to sit. She came over and gently sat down.
"I want you to tell me more about myself." She said, getting straight to the point. Her mom felt surprise but soon understood her point.
"Well, what do you want to know?" She said skeptically.
"Just anything. How about school."
"Okay, well... You usually had As and Bs. You weren't really the 'it' girl, but you had friends. Your brothers usually help you in school and with work. Douglas High is on the other side of the city and the hospital is on this side. We are moving to this side of the city for all your appointments. So now you'll be attending Candling High instead." She says, now out of breathe. Isabel nods and looks at her mother to continue.
"Your a senior now once school starts back up from winter break which is about 2-3 weeks long. The doctor said you can't do sports, but back at Douglas you were a track star. You would wake up every morning and go running with Mack." Her mother said, now smiling at the good memory.
