Ella

I was walking home from school on a Friday afternoon when it happened. I didn't know then. I didn't know who I was... Wait. I don't want to get ahead of myself. My name is Ella. Ella Jackson. I live with my mom and dad. Or at least I did from when I was born to last fall. All I knew then was they had met at a summer camp when they were little.

My parent's names are Annabeth and Percy. I know. I get Ella for a name instead of something heroic or at least brave sounding. Anyway, I was walking home from school. I lived a couple blocks over from my grandma and grandpa's house in Manhattan. I had had a pretty good day. Despite my dylexsia and ADHD, I had actually scored a C+ on a test. That may not seem good, but that was the best grade I had ever scored.

Then, it happened. It started to rain and I tucked my head into the hood of my sweatshirt and almost willed the rain to stop. I felt a surge of power going through my body, a feeling of pure delight, as the rain stopped I almost fainted from shock. Without looking back, I ran all the way home. I was panting when I got to our apartment. Dad started to say hi, but I just ran straight up to my room and collapsed in my reading chair.

What had just happened? I had obviously used powers of some sort, but what were the powers? How did I not know I had them? I was scared. I just sat in my chair and thought. I must of been there for hours because before I knew it, my mom called me down for dinner.

I slowly walked downstairs. I knew what I had to do. I would have to tell my parents. I went into the kitchen and sat down at the table. My parents were chatting about their old camp, but they stopped when they saw me standing there. I slid into my seat.

"Mom? Dad? I have something to tell you." I said, but as I said it, I knew I couldn't tell them.

"What is it?" mom said. She looked concerned as if she knew what I was going to say.

"Can I sign up to volunteer at my second grade school's field day?" I fibbed.

"Okay." my dad said. "I guess so." We finished the rest of our dinner in silence.
