There I was, on the ground in the middle of the courtyard. My head buried in my hands as blood seeped through my fingers and onto my crème sweater vest.

The chatter of classmates rattled through my brain.
"James, are you okay?" A female classmate asked. "Wow James, way to take a hit!" Another classmate mocked.

I didn't respond. I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel the pain or the blood leaking through my tightly closed fingers, the only thing I could feel was the pattern that my heart rushed.

"James! I'm so sorry dude," My buddy Joseph apologized. "I-it's fine" I groaned, not taking my hands away from my face.

The voices seemed to grow louder as my mind began to spin. I felt like I was going to throw up from embarrassment.
"Everyone move away!" A female voice shouted at the crowd.

The talking came to a close and the whispers began.

My fingers started to form a small crack for me to look through, expecting to see my social teacher, Mrs. Johnson looking down at me with her stern expression she always had.

I looked up, but instead of seeing the old crow that was Mrs. Johnson, I was a sweet pair of brown eyes that locked onto my blue eyes.

I've never seen her around the school.

She held out her hand and waited patiently for me to take it.

I looked at the concrete in front of me where the hard new baseball laid. I looked back up at the beauty that stood before my very soul and took her hand in mine.

I lifted myself off the ground. She wrapped one of my arms around her shoulders and she took an arm around my side. She reminded me how to walk, but all I could do was stumble over my feet.

"James!" Someone yelled.

We both stopped to look behind. It was Joseph and William. My best friends.

"James I am so sorry," Joseph said with an expression of guilt.

"It's okay, I'll heal." I said giving them a smirk and a thumbs up.

We began to walk again.

She carried me back into the school and into the nurse's office. She sat me down in one of the nicely cushioned seats before taking a seat next to me.

"Whats your name?" I asked her.

She looked at me then looked back in front of her.

"Alice, Alice Belshaw," she said.

"Thank you Alice." I thanked.

She just nodded.

She seemed shy, picking away at her freshly painted red nails. She stared at the beige wallpaper in front of her until the nurse came in with a ice pack and handed it to me.

The nurse looked at me with a slight snarky expression. She seemed to judge me with her piercing green eyes which was the only thing that made her attractive to some of the male students.

She slowly walked away, the only things heard was the ticking clock and clicking high heels.

Alice stood up from the chair, straightening her back before shooting me a glance.

"I'll be on my way now, I hope you feel better," She said with a small smile curling the ends of her lips.
