Hello Wattpad!
I can't believe I'm writing a book on this platform, but I have been inspired by multiple works to try and take a spin at the mafia brothers and their long-lost sister trope! After months of planning, my work is finally ready to see the light of day!
Thank you to all those who decided to give this story a read!'Our Family Portrait' is my first official work on this Wattpad. I have spent a lot of time planning the characters and plot, so I would appreciate it if my work is not plagiarized in any way. It is one thing to take inspiration and another to copy. If there are any similar scenes and such, it is merely a coincidence as I, too, love writing and reading bonding scenes between brothers and their sister!
I will let you all know that I am still in high school, and I am writing this book as a way of coping with the loneliness that comes with an "average" teen experience. I want to remind you all that your teenage years may not always be full of late night car rides, book worthy romance, or perfect friend groups. It can be messy and depressing and tiring, but it can also be freeing and exhilarating, with aesthetic photos and handwritten letters and days spent with friends doing dumb shit. It can be what you allow it to be. Don't always think of the negatives :))
I have grown to love the characters in this book, and I hope you all will grow to love them as you read this story. I am open to any ideas regarding character interactions and plot. Please do feel free to drop suggestions!
Excuse the minor errors as I always try to edit my chapters before publishing them, but I'm only human, and google docs can only catch so many errors. For the most part, criticism is appreciated as I want to improve my writing! Please don't be rude about it, as I have worked hard to create this story. There are several things I would like to mention, such as my main character, Kyrah, being aroace. I, myself, am aroace, and I have never liked how happiness was defined by whether or not you had a loving partner. If you enjoy the romance genre, wonderful, but please do not try to suggest "tension" between Kyrah and another character. No character will magically turn Kyrah "normal". Also, Kyrah has heterochromia, so her right eye is green and her left eye is brown!
One of Kyrah's brothers, Aristide is trans, a man who was assigned female at birth. I will not tolerate people misgendering him, regardless of him being fictional. That is also why I won't be including his dead name as I feel no need to, his dead name will be referred to with the letter 'A' for flashback purposes so there is no confusion. I am agender and I would love advice and feedback on those who are a part of the trans community to share their experiences!
One of Kyrah's brothers, Valentino is selectively mute, meaning hecan't speak in certain settings, but can speak fine in others. It also depends on the person as he isn't comfortable speaking with strangers but has no problem speaking with his brothers or father. Please do not hate him for not speaking to Kyrah the first few times they interact.
If you have a problem with my characters, do not leave hateful messages. Instead, simply stop reading. No one is forcing you to read my book, so do not feel justified to leave hate comments.
Most importantly, I have decided to add trigger warnings as a heads up because I do not want to throw readers into a scene that might unintentionally trigger them so please feel free to stop reading, or skip over parts that might make you uncomfortable!
