-----------------

It was a cold night at Hogwarts and Dumbledore was just leaving his daughters room making sure she settled in alright for her first day. Jasmine had been around the building a few times when her father was working and her mother wasn't around to take care of her but this was her first night staying in the building with a purpose. A purpose to learn.

She got her wand the day prior when she had a meeting with the headmaster and was so honoured to see her initials J.N.D engraved on the side. A huge moment for Jasmine and her father was so so proud. Although it was difficult to sleep she tried her very best because she knew it was going to be a long day tomorrow and the nerves were really starting to kick in. all day she was running off adrenaline while packing and moving into her dorm. Honk mimimimi as she finally falls into a sleep.

A bird perched on the windowsill, curtains flowing above the cosy bed. Jasmine stirred awake and stared angrily towards the direction of the winged creature. Mornings were not her thing especially when her body was so drained from moving the day prior. Getting herself out of bed, she threw her legs over the side of the bed and pushed her legs into the cold, hard flooring. Her new room lacked décor and any sense of home. Despite the lack of interest to her new surroundings she was craving something sweet so forced her body to get dressed and make her way down to the dining hall.

Paintings and memorabilia plastered the walls, ranging from all kind of sorcerers and wizards alike. Portraiture of the famous stared down at her like she was a feast on a scarce winter day. honestly, their eyes really creeped her out and she swore they followed her as she walked past.

Making it into the food hall, she glanced around trying to make sense of the madness displayed infront of her. Lines and cues were going in all directions leading each to a specific pile of culinary choice. however, due to these lines being such a mess, she could not make out for the life of her what was specifically at the end of each cue so she decided to take the gamble and just go for it.

The line straight in front of her seemed the shortest, which despite her stomach growling with delight she was also worried that maybe this was the wrong choice. As soon as that thought parted ways with her brain, all doubt was cleared as she made it to the front of the line. Her senses served her correctly as she was now standing in front of a bakery section, all familiar tp her as these were the same goodies her dad Dumbledoor would bring home for her every time he visited. Though it was very few times in the more recent years, she would still miss his spicy woody scent shed take in every time they'd hug.

feeling caught up on emotions she decided to take the safe option and opted for a natural brownie. Jasmine scanned the tables searching for an empty seat however as she was doing so, a ginger haired boy caught her gaze and stared opened mouth at the girl.

"you'll catch flies if you continue that" the girl sat next to him exclaimed.

he shut it immediately and the unknown girl smiled in Jasmines direction and beckoned her over. the latter girl looked around her surroundings making sure it was definitely her and cautiously made her way over to the mysterious duo.

"hi" jasmine said with a small voice, cradling her brownie in her hands like it was the most precious thing in existence.

"hi! are you new here? I haven't seen you around." The blonde girl questioned the nervous one.

"uh yea its my first day actually" Jasmine let out a small smile with the words in hope to come across as pleasant as she can.

"you have REAAALLLYYYY dark eyes" the boy blurted staring intensely into her orbs. she squirmed a bit under his stare feeling a tad uncomfortable.

"RON! don't freak her out. she's got enough to worry about as it is."

"Sorry, i couldn't help it." Ron said looking down as he fiddled with his hands,

"its alright! i actually get that quite a lot.." Jasmine replied feeling guilt for the embarrassed boy.

"Why don't you come sit down? we don't bite. I'm Hermione by the way. this is Ron." she signalled to her still red in the face friend.

"we don't but our friend might-" Ron got a punched to the shoulder for that one. jasmine awkwardly chuckled as she placed herself down on the seat Infront of them.

"Harry doesn't BITE he's just very affectionate" Hermione reasoned

"whatever helps you sleep at night" the ginger rested his head done on his arms trying to make himself comfortable.

the two girls conversed in small conversation until the bell went. Jasmine was feeling good about her new found friend Hermione but she wasn't yet sure about the Ron guy.

Hermione invited Jasmine to hang out with them again after class and that their other friend would also be joining. she felt pretty nervous about this, almost that it was too good to be true being invited to a friendship group so early on.

rushing to class as to not make a scene being late she found a spare seat and got herself comfortable taking out her new notebook and quill. they were a present from her mother before she went off to hogwarts. a small note written inside: Never regret thy fall, O Icarus of the fearless flight, For the greatest tragedy of them all, Is never to feel the burning light.

Rereading her ever favourite quote she focused her attentional to the front of the hall where the professor stood rigid and cold. His voice echoed through the hall as the students all spoke in hushed tones. a long semester was about to begin and oh boy was she not ready for whatv was about to come her way.
