Ghost POV
Jesus fucking Christ, I think to myself, sitting on the damp sofa. Part of me questions how unprofessional I am being right now and how much danger I could be putting the team, myself, and more importantly, Lara, in.
However, there is another part of me that knows through years of dangerous missions, a multitude of dangerous, stupid, and some downright ugly situations... I have never felt this alive.
I am sitting in the dark with my NVGs on, preparing to make another round of the perimeter.
That's when I hear it.
Gravel crunching.
Quick booted footsteps.
The wooden deck creaks.I ready my SA80, the night scope already attached. I make my way swiftly to the downstairs room Taylor is sharing with Colin.
Opening the door, "Taylor, wake up," I say firmly.
Taylor snaps awake.
"Someone's here." Taylor leaps out of bed, still in his trousers and T-shirt.
"Take Colin upstairs."
"Yes, sir," he responds without hesitation.Colin is wide awake and moves deftly behind Taylor, who has grabbed his weapon from the table as he moves to the stairs.
"Stay with the civilians and keep them together."
I don't need to give him further instructions. He will group Colin, Stew, and Lara together, alerting the rest of the unit in the process, unless...
The door to the safe house explodes in.
"CONTACT!" I yell.I drop into a defensive stance behind a desk, my weapon trained on the open door.
A thud.
I instinctively cover my ears and scrunch my eyes as tight as possible.
The thundering BANG physically moves me, and behind closed eyes, light explodes.
The flashbang grenade's sole purpose is to disorient, blind, and render you incapable.
The ringing in my ears chimes mercilessly, but my weapon is leveled at the door again, and my eyes are focusing.
Two hostiles run through the door as I pick them off with a spray of the semi-automatic weapon.
I stand up and move towards the door.
The ringing has stopped, but now all I hear is a rushing noise and silence followed by a cry un Russian:
"иди, иди, убей их всех"
(go, go, go, kill them all)Another man comes running towards me. His stride is strong, and he's nearly upon me. I swivel the rifle around in my hand.
I swing the butt of the weapon into his unsuspecting face and use the momentum to kick his legs from under him. I continue the movement, firing one round into his face. He is dead before his head hits the floor.
