It's...Aaravos

"We might be able to free your parents Rayla. What's wrong?" Callum asked as he saw Rayla's distressed expression. "It isn't you... it's...Aaravos. He said you were already tainted by darkness. What if this only lets him be able to control you better?" "Rayla, I will be fine" Callum said as he began the spell. As a fog came from the magic he cast on the coins, Rayla covered her eyes. "Callum?"

"Your little mage is not here, it is only me, little one" Aaravos said.

Rayla froze. This was not the funny, dorky, loving Callum she knew. As she took out her blades, Aaravos laughed.

"Always so dramatic with you, isn't it?" Aaravos asked, turning to her. "As if you could ever kill your precious mage, but your heart for Xadia I suppose."

Rayla sheathed her blades. "I'm surprised you worked so hard to keep me in my prison. We both know how good you are at keeping promises" he said with a slight laugh. "Don't act like you know me!" she said as she clenched her teeth.

"Oh but I do!" he sad, circling her. "You were meant to be an assassin, to be like your adoptive father, Runaan' he said as she winced at the name. "Oh, sensitive topic? But then, you refuse to kill, going against your morals. And you build a bond with the child king and the mage. And when you go back to the Silvergrove, your home, they refused you, rejected you, ghosted you. And finally, you feel like you belong, until you find out Viren is still alive, and end up leaving, losing everything you worked for. But when you get back, you feel accepted, but it doesn't change the fact either way, you are destined to leave and lose everything and everyone you love" he said with a smirk. "And that you helped me gain control of your little mage."

"That-" "Isn't true? You are lying to yourself now. You took a chance, just like you did when you tackled Viren off the cliff, and when you went out to find him." She looked away with a saddened expression.

"Why are you here!?!" she exclaimed, no longer able to hold back the question that had been itching at her during this entire interaction. "To prove a simple point. Either way, you are still an elf, and he is still a human. No amount of magic will ever change that, no matter how badly you want it" he said, examining the room filled with books, Zym sleeping in the corner.

"Ah, this is what I was looking for" he said, pulling out a book as he flipped through the pages. "What do you mean?" she asked skeptically. "A spell to wipe minds" he said as he closed the book with one hand drew the rune in the air and spoke.

"Obliviscatur" he said as she fell backward and collapsed, passed out. "Goodnight, Little one" he said as he left Callum and he fell to the floor.

As he took in what was going on, he ran to Rayla. "Rayla? Wake up!" he yelled, shaking her. "W-What happened?" she asked, sitting up. "Runaan? Ethari? Human!" she yelled, putting her blades to his neck. "No..." Callum said.

"Yes" Aaravos said, laughing in the back of his head. "What did you do to her!?!"

"A simple mind-wiping spell, simple but powerful. She doesn't remember a thing." "Who. Are. You?" Rayla asked, putting her blade closer to his neck.

"Rayla..." "How do you know my name?" she asked aggressively. But then her blade dropped as she fell to her knees in pain, gripping her head.

"She broke it..." Aaravos said, annoyed by the ineffectiveness of his spell. As she finally stood, Callum helped her as they walked to the infirmary.

"Oh, and Rayla?" Aaravos asked. Rayla's eyes dilated at the voice as she backed away, pulling out her blades. "Don't be so dramatic, you would never cause pain to your precious little mage" he said as she looked away in thought.

"Drop them" he said. "Drop them" he repeated as she dropped her blades and they fell to the floor. "Good girl" he said as she stood still, not sure why she had listened to him.

"Where. Is. The. Dark. Mages?" he asked, lifting her chin. "Tell me" he said, searching through the young elves' mind. "The dungeon. Thanks for the help, little one." She closed her eyes, crying HARD.

"Don't cry little one" he said with a smirk as he wiped her tears and she looked at him in defiance. "Today is a joyous day, do not worry, I will not hurt your little mage, I promise." "And how do I know you aren't lying?" she asked.

"I never lie. I can't. But, I also can't let you remember this" he said with a smirk. As she looked up, her eyes dilated and started to roll to the back of her head as she collapsed and passed out on the floor.

As Aaravos actually went into his form, Callum being a mere host, he walked to the dungeon and freed Viren and Claudia. As Viren saw the elf on the ground, he smirked. "She got what she deserved" Viren said, looking at the young elf.

"No, not yet. But she will soon, and I will see to it" Aaravos said with a smirk as he let Callum go and he fell to his knees and ran to Rayla and cried in her neck. "It had to be done" Aaravos said. But then, something happened.

As she bent back, a ray of magic flowed from her. As it finished, she was standing, breathing heavily. "Look at that" Aaravos said. As she bent back more, magic shot from her chest as she was restored.

"Impressive" he said, clapping as Viren and Claudia left. Rayla backed away. Callum noticed the fear inside her eyes and stood in between her and Aaravos.

"Do not worry, I do not want to bring harm to you. But I have a bone to pick with the little one. I will see you soon" he said as he faded away. "Cal-l...u....m..." Rayla said as the invisible Aaravos put two fingers to her forehead, causing her to pass out as her head bent back, her chin leaning back towards looking at the ceiling. "Rayla!" Callum said as he was shoved back by magic and Aaravos picked Rayla up. "Say goodbye, young mage" he said with a smirk as he snapped the two out of there.
