chapter 1: Cruelty

"Aniki you have to stay home your sick" a girl spoke softly making her brother lay down on the futon "but Nezuko I have to sell some coal so we can-" "I'll go sell it you just relax" the girl who's name is apparently Nezuko said and smiled standing up "you don't have to really I'm fine I can go sell the coal you should relax Nezuko" the boy said "no that's final Tanjiro you lay there and relax I'm going to sell the coal and your gonna relax!" She said and walked out but not before telling him to get better soon as she walked outside and grabbed the basket with coal her mother walked outside "Nezuko? Your gonna be selling the coal?" she walked over and wiped a bit of coal dust off her face "yes tanjiro is a bit sick and I want him to relax so I'll go sell the coal and be back later okay!" She smiled at her mother "alright then stay safe" she smiled back "is tanjiro okay!?" A girl ran over holding her brothers hand "yes he's fine just a little bit sick" she brushed the hair out of the little girls face "no fair he was gonna help me chop the wood!" Another boy said and pouted and Nezuko walked over "he'll definitely help when he feels better don't worry!" Nezuko said smiling "can we come with you?" The girl said "no not today but don't worry I'll bring loads of treats and I'll sing and read to you guys when I'm back okay?" The girl smiled and nodded and nezuko kissed her forehead before walking away waving to her family before heading down the mountain

When she reached down the mountain she looked around before hearing her name being called "Nezuko? What are you doing here it's far to dangerous to go down the mountain in this weather" a older women said walking over "I was just gonna sell some coal so out family could have a good meal are you perhaps in need of some?" Nezuko said smiling at the woman "not today but I'll bet there's someone just stay safe okay?" The woman said smiling "of course see you later have a good day" she said before walking off she was in town for a while it was getting dark out and she was gonna head back home before a old woman called out to her she turned her head and looked at the person calling her "oh hello Mrs. Saburo! Is there something you need? if it's coal I'm sorry I'm completely sold out!" She said smiling "your not seriously planning to walk up the mountain this time at night come I'll let you stay here for the night" the old lady said "oh no I really should get going home" Nezuko said trying to decline the offer "get inside Nezuko before the demons show up"

Nezuko was sitting inside the house eating "Mrs saburo what did you mean by demons?" Nezuko asked looking up at her "my husband told me about man eating demons they only come out at night and there extremely dangerous the only reason we don't see them as often is because of the demon slayers they protect us from those creatures" Nezuko looked at her puzzled thinking to herself 'poor Mrs suburo she must be lonely after her husband died she's started imaging demons' nezuko frowned at the thought "there's a spare futon you can sleep on so just sleep alright?" She walked away into her room and nezuko walked over to the futon and laid down 'I need to apologize and explain why I didn't come home tomorrow but until then I'll just sleep there probably all asleep anyways' nezuko thought as she started drifting off

When nezuko woke up she headed straight for her house excited to see her family again and to tell them the good news about how she sold out and yo apologize for not coming home yesterday as she walked closer and closer she started to smell something 'is that.. The smell of blood!' She looked up and started to bolt for her house and when she finally saw what had happened she froze dropping the coal basket and running over "TANJIRO! ROKUTA WHAT HAPPENED" she fell to her knees before looking inside "... Mom.. Hanako takeo.. Shigeru.." She said on the verge of tears

Nezuko was running down the mountain with her brother on her back running as fast as she could "Don't worry tanjiro I'll get you to a doctor I promise!" She ran faster 'tanjiro was the only one still warm if I can get him to a doctor he might survive' she ran and ran until tanjiro started moving around "Tanjiro calm dow- AH" she slipped on the snow and fell down landing in the snow 'the snow saved me.. But it was also the reason I fell.. Wait.' "TANJIRO" she looked around for her brother she looked at him he was standing "Tanjiro you don't have to walk I'll carry you to town okay..?" She walked over to her brother but he looked up and growled at her before leaping towards her making them both fall on the ground nezuko grabbed the hatchet she was holding and used it to hold tanjiro back "TANJIRO WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU I'M NEZUKO YOUR LITTLE SISTER PLEASE STOP" she was struggling to hold him back but as she kept trying to convince him to stop he started to tear up a guy was running towards them and when nezuko looked up at him the guy had black hair blue eyes and he seemed to have tattoos all over his arms he wore brass knuckles and he had a hairpin that looked like snowflakes in his hair "who are you.." Nezuko began before the guy leaped over and tried to grab Tanjiro but Nezuko moved out of the way ".. Why are you protecting it.." He said and looked at her "he's my older brother!" Nezuko yelled at the man "that thing is no longer your brother" he pointed at Tanjiro "he's a man eating demon and as a demon slayer it's my duty to slaughter him" the man said looking at them "What are you saying! Tanjiro kan barely hurt a fly there's no way he would harm another person just no way!" Nezuko said holding tanjiro and the man leaped forward and nezuko tried to protect him by covering over him but when she did he was gone and when she looked up the stranger was holding him so he couldn't escape "your weak can barely protect someone from being captured" the man said nezuko froze and looked at them before getting on her hands and knees "please please don't take my big brother please don't take him away I can't lose anyone else" she pleaded the man and the stranger was taken by surprise before he looked down and then looked up at her with anger "DON'T GROVEL LIKE THAT AND GIVE YOUR ENEMIES THE CHANCE TO ATTACK JUST BY DOING THAT IS WHAT LEAD TO HER CAPTURE" as the man yelled he punched tanjiro and when nezuko saw that she saw read she stood up and grabbed the hatched and threw a rock at him the man dodged it with ease and when another rock came forward he dodged that as well nezuko was charging towards him and he hit her neck causing her to fall down and pass out and he looked up quickly seeing a hatchet almost hitting him but he dodged it in shock he looked down at the girl tanjiro was shaking and he kicked the man and leaped towards nezuko 'crap I was so distracted I forgot about the demon' tanjiro got closer to nezuko and the man froze as tanjiro protected her and leaped towards him instead as he fought he was thinking maybe just maybe these siblings are different he hit tanjiro causing him to pass out as well

"Nezuko come on nezuko you have to save your brother"

Nezuko startled awake and looked around for tanjiro grabbing the blanket that was around him and she looked up at the man "who.." She started but couldn't finish "my name is Hakuji Soyama go to mount sagiri and find a man named Haruto urokodaki also your a lucky girl the only reason your brother hasn't burned to death is because the clouds covering the sun" the man well Hakuji said and looked around "and you never gave me your name" nezuko looked up "It's nezuko kamado! And what do you mean burn?!" She said and looked at tanjiro "don't let him get near the sun demons can't go under the sun it's there weakness" and then he disappeared faster then the human eye could even comprehend

Nezuko was on her knees before standing up and looking at her buried family "Come on tanjiro let's go" she took her brothers hand and ran
