Clinton hoped for a day where he would be able to rest, and for some time today sure looked like it was going to be that day. If he was not on campus, he was too busy dealing with Naledi, if not Naledi it would be Jenner, or the worst of it all, fetching Zion from school.
He was always needed somewhere, and while it was good to keep busy, there was no harm in staying home and unwinding there. Again, today seemed like the day had finally come until a text from the unlikeliest of senders bothered Clinton right after his shower.
What's good bro? Are you down to meet?
Clinton thought he read it incorrectly, but it turns out this was not one of those wild daydreams. He had received a text from Elijah, asking that they meet up.
It was peculiar.
More peculiar than the random follow request he had received from him days ago, especially after their altercation. Normal people would be plotting their revenge down to the fine detail, but Elijah was being oddly friendly. Clinton did regret throwing the punch, he was overcome with something that he still is trying to understand today. He always sought to avoid escalating things to such a level, but he simply saw that as one of his off days. It was hard to turn away from Elijah's annoying actions.
Of course, Clinton was being vigilant. One does not take a punch and not do anything about it afterwards, especially when the prize is a girl as beautiful as Naledi.
A part of him was beginning to regret continuing the whole ordeal. Mostly because the guilt of how he was lying to Jenner was eating away at him, but also because of how fond he was growing for Naledi. Every time they would be together, he would learn something new about her. Something far too interesting that it would leave Clinton wondering why Elijah would make the dumb move of breaking up with Naledi in the first place.
However, each to their own.
Clinton broke up with girls because he would grow thoroughly bored, so he was in no position to question the actions of another. All he knew was in the loss Elijah had, he had found an amazing person in Naledi.
Even their time together was rarely spent plotting ways to get back at Elijah. They would talk about everything else except that as if they were actual friends. In this, he discovered Naledi's interest in stand-up comedy – Dave Chapelle, his favourite comedian. Naledi loved listening to Beyoncé's "Lemonade". She was fond of tiramisu, the boozy kind. Naledi had the cutest resting face, the same one that he would take photos of at the most random moments, the same one that would go on to become his wallpaper.
Yes, it's gotten that serious.
Clinton's atomic silver Lexus had finally arrived at their meeting spot, a rather interesting choice in his opinion because normal people would suggest a post to grab a bite to eat or the movies, but Elijah went ahead and invited him to converge at the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit.
The famous four-kilometre space is only one of three circuits on the African continent to play host to the Formula One World Championship Grands Prix – most notably the South African Grand Prix.
The same tar would now play host to Elijah and Clinton's meeting.
Under the sweltering glare of the midday sun, Clinton found his way to the pit stop area where he spotted a stagnant Alfa Rome Giulia and figured that it was Elijah because who else knew that they would be there?
Clinton switched his car off and stepped out – clad in shorts, sneakers and an LA Lakers jersey – to meet Elijah. Naturally so, the atmosphere was slightly timid, over the fact that this was their first time seeing each other since that dreadful night of bowling. Clinton was on high alert in case Elijah decided to be stupid and started throwing fists out of nowhere.
