madrid! oh how i love you!
you, with your beautiful art galleries and thin, narrow lanes.
you, with your exquisite architecture and tiled roads.
you, with your wide highways and tall mountains
you, with your serene beaches and piña coladas
our 41 days of vacation dwindled down to 36, but oh madrid, how i wish i could've stayed longer. how i wished i could've explored all the caves on your beaches and the streets in your city. i wished him and i could've spent a few days longer, lounging on that sandy beach towel. i wish i could take one more cold shower, cleansing my body of the coarse sand, because that — that was one of my favourite feelings. we kissed under the starry nights and climbed unlimited steps, i wore long dresses and him thin linen shirts. i held his hand as he angled the polaroid camera and smiled into the flash. i never let him keep any of those pictures.
madrid, how i wish i could come back soon, and meet him here, once again.
but we have more cities to travel and only a month and 6 days left to spend.
so, like a childhood friend, like the the calluses on my painted hands, i bid goodbye to madrid.
