An eerie silence filled the room, nothing could be heard apart from Clay's ragged breaths.

That was until the frantic footsteps above came to a halt. Clay knew whoever it was, they were right by the door. It was like a 6th sense almost, having been in this job for so long made Clay hyper alert of everything going on around him.

Before the boy could turn around, a deep chuckle echoed around the room, bouncing off the walls. "Well well well..should've known you were up to something Clayton. There was always something fishy about you" Harpers gleeful voice swam into Clay's ears, a sneer evident on his face.

"Harper." The boy himself turned to meet Harper's deathly gaze.

'Just stand tall, keep your head up and maintain eye contact..don't seem afraid.'

"Trying to get through to the portal huh? I knew you had an ego but THIS is another level - you love to show off" Harper continued to taunt Clay, his heavy footsteps coming nearer and nearer to him.

"I do, love me a bit of fame I do" A smirk settled on Clay's features, despite his confident tone he took a step back..for safety.

"Heard your two friends got sent to the dungeons...you'll be joining them" Harper made a lunge towards Clay, bulky arms reaching out to grab him. With quick reflexes, Clay swerved out of the way, running towards the portal instead.

A sneer escaped past Harper's lips, anger building up inside him. He had to get Clay in trouble one way or another; he's been causing problems for him ever since he joined.

Harper wanted revenge.

"Come here you little git"

Clay sighed, shaking his head in almost amusement, "No can do buddy, I got places to be"

And with that, Clay threw himself onto Harper's large build, clinging onto him. Harper began to struggle, flailing his arms about to escape Clay's firm grasp. For someone with a build like him, he sure was strong.

"Just...a last hug before you never see me again" With that, the dirty blonde's grip tightened, allowing Harper's breathing to be cut off.

Clay only let go once Harper's eyes had rolled to the back of his head indicating he had passed out from lack of oxygen.

"Good man" Clay smiled, patting Harper's head before strolling over to the portal. Taking a deep breath, he looked around.

Was this how it ended? Will he ever come back here?

Not that he'd mind, he'd be with his two best friends. Sure, you could be thinking about his family but; truth be told, Clay's family wasn't always the best.

They always insisted on Clay being this perfect boy, no mistakes. Which is why they had been so harsh on him, they never cared about him necessarily more so the pride that came with their son being a top guard. His Mom always complained how he hadn't found a lover yet, he just wasn't ready why couldn't she see that? His father pushed him beyond his limits, being an alcoholic his father would often be quite aggressive, sometimes violent with Clay. To top it all off, his family was poor, the only income being from Clay's job, which they took immediately and spent on useless things like alcohol and gambling.

Bullshit, as Clay called it.

Closing his jade green eyes, Clay allowed the portal to pull him into its aura. Clay felt like he was swimming, yet flying, it was a sensational feeling..one he couldn't describe. His eyes stayed closed, not that he could open them. It was as if an invisible force was pulling him along, gliding through water. All sorts of sounds crept through his ears, the most prominent being a low hum.

That was until it all stopped, and the only thing Clay was able to register was the numb feeling which slowly began to penetrate his body, swarming him like a horde of bees.
