October 1918 - Canary Wharf, London
Like leaving, returning was hard. The London he left was not the same London he was returning to; many of the people Neko grew up with had died and the ones lucky enough to survive had a haunted look in their eyes, the same look that Neko carefully hid beneath a soft smile.
As he walked towards his family home, preparing himself for it to be empty, as he held onto a box holding the medals he'd received for his service; as he walked the streets he nodded to the people around him, some of the men tilting their caps in respect for the man that had probably saved their lives and if not their own then someone's they held close.
Getting to his house he held the keys in a shaky hand, his mothers singing echoed through his mind and his fathers laughs shook his bones, sounds he'd never hear again. As soon as the door opened dust began to lift; raising a hand Neko coughed and made his way in. Family ornaments still stood, coats hung off the racks, shoes lined the walls. For an hour he walked around a shell of memories, picking up trinkets and smiling at the memory that accompanied them.
"Mr. Stone!", his head snapped in the direction of the small voice, "Mr. Stone?", with silent steps he made his way back to the hallway, he could see the boy stood there, small hand holding onto the door, "Mr. Stone? Are you there?", the boy had grown in the last four years and Neko felt sad that'd he'd missed out on so much. Deciding to finally reveal himself, Neko stepped into the boys sight, and it made a gasp sprout from the, now 10 year old, boy, "Mr. Stone!", the small body ran at Neko, fluffing himself into the tall mans arms, "you came back".
Neko brushed the boys hair with a smile, "of course I did, Teddy", he lifted then boys head to look into the bright blue eyes, "I promised, didn't I?", Teddy nodded, hands clinging to the man he'd looked up to for so long, "now, did Lilith and Lucifer behave themselves?", Teddy nodded again, a bright grin splitting his face.
"I'll go and get them", he turned and ran, coming back seconds later with two bundles in his arms, "they missed you a lot, kept meowing and trying to climb out of the windows to come over", Neko gently grabbed his two beloved cats, holding them in his arms with a grin, a grin that widened when they two felines began to purr loudly and rub their heads against his cheeks.
"I missed them too"
