"Yeah and then bubba said he won't be back until like... the fifteenth? I love that he got his promotion finally but they're having him travel a lot." Phe complained as her and Ares walked out of the front office of their school and out of the doors.

"Facts. I'm happy for O for real, but I be missing him like shit. Maybe when- aye, hol' on, wait for me at the bottom, ma." Ares placed his hand on Phe's lower back and looked back at one of the boys he grew up with as he talked to an associate.

"Okay, I'll start ordering our food while I wait." She said and looked behind Ares when Jabari walked up to them. "Hey, JB."

"What's up, Baby V?" He nodded at her and she gave a friendly smile before turning around and walking down the steps. "So... did you think about what I said?" Bari raised his eyebrow at Ares and started to eye Phoenix again.

"Yeah and eyes over here nigga." Reese made a stink face and stepped in front of Jabari, blocking his view of her. "She spoken for."

"Aw shit, I ain't know that was you, my bad. Thought y'all was on some sibling shit though." He chuckled.

"I ain't say I was the one speakin' for her, she my brother shorty. But back to the topic on hand, I thought about it and nah man... my brother would kill me, real shit. Then wit' O, I'on want him disappointed in me and shit and-"

"You tryn' keep the peace, I hear you." Jabari shrugged and gave him an understanding nod. "Besides, not everybody really built for this shit anyway so I see why you wan' stay out of it."

Ares furrowed his eyebrows, "What dat' mean?"

"Nothing, nothing." Jabari said, "I'm just saying... you living your life for other people, maybe the streets ain't for you after all."

"Nigga do you know who I am? Do you know who my brother is-"

"Yeah, we all know Bullet. We know how he used to get down and we all know why niggas is scared to beef wit' him but that's him, A, not you." He stared him in the eyes. "You use yo' brother as a way to scare niggas, you use what he used to do as a crutch, that man came up out the pen and gave all that shit up-"

"What's yo' point, Bar?" Ares clenched his jaw. "You gettin' too comfortable talkin' about him."

"Am I?" Jabari chuckled. "Cus' what's gon' happen, Reese? I ain't saying shit bad about him, I wasn't even going to. All in all, nobody fears you because you don't get yo' hands dirty and nobody respects you because instead of being a man and doing what you supposed to do, you sit up there and hide behind yo' brothers shadow. You complain about not makin' bread but don't make nun' shake, you ain't about yo' money, Reese and that's okay. I'll take my business elsewhere, it's plenty of niggas at this school that'd be glad to take yo' spot."

Ares poked his cheek with his tongue and glanced down at Jabari's waist before rubbing the tip of his nose with his thumb and nodding, clearing his throat. "Aight."

"I ain't tryna be funny Reese but... it is what it is. You still my friend at the end of the day and I love you but somebody had to be honest wit' you." Jabari said and his eyes went behind Ares. "Clearly nobody else will do it."
