Who are you?

I let go of the log and feel myself slip away. My body becomes numb, and my hair starts to tangle its self it what seems like roots. Tree roots, maybe. Or grass? I kept my eyes closed until I felt a small breeze hit my face. I slowly opened my eyes and found myself floating over what looked to be a giant top hat.

My face lit up as I saw the mad hatter holding his arms open to catch me. As I fall into his arms, I hear him giggle while putting me down. His face was lit up in a playful grin, and all I could do at the moment was smile back. My legs were still feeling sore from all the running I had done the day before. I stubble and try to regain my balance but still ended up allowing myself to fall. I felt two hands cover up my eyes and say, "Guess who?" I immediately turn around to find the twins standing right in front of me.

I remembered I didn't greet the hatter, so I got up as quickly as I could and embraced all three of them in a tight hug.

"God, I missed you guys. Where's everyone else? Your family?"

I couldn't stop asking questions and it seem to make the mad hatter even more excited so instead of answering, he put a finger on my face as to shush me and held out his hand for me to grab. I didn't think twice, and I grabbed his had.

We made our way down the giant colorful top hat, and I noticed that there was a garden that wasn't there before the last time I was here. It had all sorts of weird flowers from some that had cards as petals to others that had butterfly wings as leaves. They were strange

"Huh, curiouser and curiouser," I whispered to myself.

The twins opened the door, and as soon as I walked in, the hatters family lunged at me, and I could hear some asking how I was and other asking why my hair was covered in leaves and dirt. I was happy to see them, but it was overwhelming to have more than 3 people all over me trying to talk all at once. So, I found a way to sneak out and stand away from them. Trying to catch my breath from all the laughing and embarrassment, I finally reet them properly. Answering their questions and finally looking around to try and find the mad hatter. But.... I didn't see him anywhere.

After I finished greeting everyone, I made my way up the spiraling stairs of the top hat house. All the way to he place where I landed earlier that day and there he was. Just sitting at the edge of the hat, looking up at the clouds smiling. I sat next to him and waited until he was done admiring the sky.

"Hey..." I whispered

"Hey...." he whispered back.

We sat at the edge of the hat and talked for a while. We talked about what it was like after the white queen, and the red queen decided to take some time to become closer again. However, something he said catched my attention. He told me that the white queen had left a small cabin at the edge of a lake where I could live if I ever chose to stay in wonderland. I found this exciting and decided I wanted to go see it for myself.

Sadly, she had hidden it with a spell only she could undo so it would be a safe place for me to live in. I made up my mind to go to her castle to ask for her approval and hopefully start a new life f e here in Wonderland.

The mad hatter agreed to my idea and he asked to come with me. But his face suddenly changed and a small frown. It turned out he needed to stay with his family since his father had asked of him a favor he could not speak of. So I would have to travel alone.

I wasn't too comfortable with the idea of being alone, but it wouldn't be the first  time, so I gave the mad hatter a hug and decided I would leave before sundown.

Before leaving, I got something to eat and  made sure to pack some food in case I couldn't find any on my way to see the queen. I was terrified of how the red queen would react to seeing me again. But I mean, last time I saw her, she seemed to not hate me as much since her sister finally apologized for lying. I guess she shouldn't be too upset.

Right?

I made my way outside and said goodbye to everyone at the house. I took my bad and tossed it over my shoulder to distribute some of the weight evenly so my arms wouldn't get too tired.

After walking for about 3 hours, I decided it was time for a break. The sun was almost set, and I still hadn't found a place to spend the night. I found myself wishing the hatter was with me, so I didn't feel so alone. I didn't recognize this part of the forest, which seemed weird considering g the fact that I took the route I always did when leaving the hatters' house.

I got up and looked around to see if I could find a familiar point in the forest or maybe a road.

I couldn't see anything.

Just trees and what seemed like a darkness that was threatening to swallow me whole. After some contemplating, I chose to walk for a little longer while there were a few rays of sunlight left.

Took a turn here, another. Is there maybe a left here? Or a right? I was starting to feel frustrated when suddenly I heard the snap of a branch behind me. I quickly turned around to see if I could spot anyone, but all I could see was darkness. I continued to walk, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being followed. I just hoped it wasn't something evil and that I could lose it by going deeper into the woods.

The last bit of sunlight was starting to disappear, so I decided to stop and spend the night. It was getting colder, and I realized I hadn't brought a blanket or something to keep me warm. I made a fire, hoping that would warm me up a bit, but, for some reason, it just seemed to make the night colder. I lay close to the fire and stared at the sea of trees above me. All shapes and sizes. All color I could possibly think of. That's the wonder of wonderland. Soon, I was fast asleep.

While sleeping, I felt my body suddenly go warm. The cold disappeared, and I was left with a comfortable warmth that made me feel safe. A familiar chirp brushed against my ear, and I heard whispering. I told myself to open my eyes, but the warmth given to me by this mysterious creature kept me from waking up. I heard the chirp once more, and then seconds after that, I heard a fait chuckle. For some reason, it made me smile in my sleep. I was conscious of my surroundings, but my dreams decided to keep me trapped from knowing who was near me.

Watching me.....

In the morning, I ate some of the cake the hatter had packed for me and drank some of the tea, making sure to leave enough for later. I couldn't help but wonder who was with me last night. It surprised me that I wasn't scared at all infact I felt like I could sleep forever while having that mysterious person watch over me.

I walked for about 30 minutes, which seemed to feel like hours. I started to recognize where I was, which was a good sing. I'm that meant I wasn't lost anymore. I turned around when I heard flapping behind me, and I noticed a blue and red bird standing in a small rock in front of me. Its eyes looking intently at my own. I recognized the bird, but I couldn't quite remember from where. Then, as if I had no control over my emotions , I began to cry.

Why?

Confused at the situation, I fell on my knees and tried to wipe the current of tears streaming down my face. Then I heard footsteps behind me and a voice say, "Don't cry...... your ugly when you cry. "

My head snapped back, and I saw a red-haired boy with dark purple eyes staring at me with a wondering expression.

His eyes met mine, and he leaned forward to move my hair from my face. I moved slightly, but I allowed him to remove my hair from my face. He got up and backed away and smiled. Something about that smile scared me. It was heartless. Not at all like I wanted it to be. Like I needed it to be.

I got up slowly and picked up my bag. As I was about to walk away, he tilted his head in confusion. He looked like he didn't want me to leave. So instead, I turned to face him again.

Without a second thought, I heard myself say,

"Who are you........."

And once again, he smiled.......
