- PLOTTING BECK'S MURDER -

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

BECK HAD NEVER been so aware of her heartbeat as her and John B backed away from the window, a chorus of profanities exchanged amongst themselves as they shuffled around the room in a panic.

"Guys, guys, is that them? Is that them?" Kie's voice wavered as fright set in, Beck watching wide eyed as the guys rounded the house until they disappeared.

If they actually shot at John B and JJ, she was sure they wouldn't have any problem shooting at her too. And considering she wasn't exactly friends with any of these people, surely she'd be the first one thrown to the curb.

"This is suboptimal." Pope huffed, JJ passing him as he looked like he'd start pacing, everyone tense and stressed beyond belief.

"John B, I told you." The boy rubbed his head nervously. "Why does it always—"

"JJ! Hey, look at me." John B got ahold of the collar of JJ's shirt and shoved him against the wall, his index finger shoved in his face to demand his attention. "Where's the gun?"

Beck kept glancing from the teens to the window, wanting to know if the men walked back in her sight. But the mention of the gun piqued her concern and she was staring at JJ as everyone awaited his reply impatiently.

"Gun? I, uh, I can't..." He dug his fingers into the side of his head like he was digging for an answer, the pressure building with presumably armed men outside the door and all the eyes staring at him, depending on him to have a weapon too.

"Now you don't have the gun, the one time we need the gun?" Kie held her hands to her mouth, her voice higher as her shoulders scrunched up around herself as a sort of security blanket.

"It was in my backpack, and then I—"

"Backpack... On the porch." John B stated, a lightbulb going off in JJ's head.

"It's on the porch." He spoke quickly.

John B let him go and nudged him towards the door. "Go, go."

The room fell silent as JJ exited, Beck's lip sure to be half gnawed off if she made it out of here without being shot. That idea made her chest tighten, her arms wrapping around herself as they waited for JJ to return.

"John Routledge!"

They all jumped at the deep call of the boy's name, Beck backing up further as she heard a crash following JJ's footsteps back into the room.

"Guys!" Kie held back a small cry as she too backed up towards Beck, both girls mindlessly getting closer to one another for some form of security.

"Come on out now!" One said as the door that connected the porch and the house slammed against the wall in their sudden entrance and Beck had to bite back a terrified shout.

"Where's the compass?" The other yelled, the sounds of them making a mess of John B's house led Kie to grab for Beck's hand, the girl gladly accepting it no matter how awkward their relationship may be.
