This is a recount of something that happened to me just a few weeks ago. I woke up and went to a bar and had a drink to buzz myself slightly after a miserable day of work the day before that was still bothering me. Luckily today was my day off so after getting a little buzzed I decided to go for a jog at the nearby trails. I've always had a distaste for the woods as in my eyes it seems like nothing but a good way to get hurt, get bitten, or get poison ivy. So I was going for a jog along one of the asphalt trails when I suddenly heard a weird voice echoing through the air that almost sounded like, "Hello?! Is there anyone out there?!" I looked to where it was coming from and it was a trail into the woods much to my displeasure... "Well whatever," I thought and jogged down the trail all while the sun hadn't even come up completely yet so the trail was pretty dark and after jogging down it and looking for the voice about ten minutes later the trail suddenly came to an abrupt stop and there was no one. "Must've been the alcohol then," I told myself, "What a waste of time..." I then turned to jog back down the trail but when I turned the trail was completely gone and so was any sign of the park full of the trails. Now there was nothing but endless forest in all directions shrouded in complete darkness. I was lost. And had no clue where I was...
I didn't have much left to do but just walk and hope I found a way out. I walked in a lot of directions taking random turns just hoping I could find anything that could mean an exit to these thick woods. All while the dead trees swayed in the breeze that blew through this dark forest. I walked for nearly two full hours and it just seemed like the forest was getting darker which made no sense as the sun would be coming up by now. But what creeped me out even more is that this place seemed devoid of any life besides plants. There were no footprints left by humans, or even animals. There was also no trash anywhere which I found odd as I went into here through a public walking trails park. There weren't even any bugs buzzing around me, it was as if this place had all life stripped away from it... Then I felt my foot step on something different and I leaned down to see what it was and after brushing some leaves aside I found an old flash camera. "So someone has been here before..." I thought to myself and I picked it up and began to scroll through some photos, but the flash this camera had made it's images so blurry I could hardly tell what most of them were... I noticed an odd human looking shape in a few pictures, but considering half the trees in this forest looked that way from a certain perspective I brushed it off and kept moving.
After about another hour my legs were aching and I sat down against a tree to rest and looked at my surroundings as I did. Still nothing but dark endless dead trees with leaves cluttering the ground. As I sat and waited for the aches to stop I noticed something on a tree nearby and walked over and looked closely and what I saw rocked me to my core... The bark looked like... A human face... Trapped in a screaming state... At first I thought it may just be a random detail of this tree specifically, but I looked around and the deeper the trees went the more clearly I could see the shapes of human faces in the bark of all of them. "What the absolute hell...?!" I said as I began examining them closer. I looked closely at one in particular and then I realized something... I knew the face of this person... It was a man who went missing in Montana just three weeks prior who was all over the news when it happened, but I lived in North Carolina! How did the missing guy from Montana end up here?! I looked at some other nearby trees and saw even more grotesque screaming faces and I recognized even more from various missing persons cases as far back as four years ago! By now I was beginning to panic as I frantically turned and looked every direction for some way I'd escape when I heard a crunch under my foot... I looked down and I was met with the skull of a human which I'd just broken the jaw off of staring back up at me with its empty eye sockets... Seeing that was the last straw for me and my mind screamed as I began vomiting everywhere. As soon as that was over I gave up trying to find an optimal route and just ran in terror through the woods and now it seemed as if the trees of this place had sprung to life and their branches were reaching out to drag me away, but at that point I was too terrified to notice and just continued to run hoping and praying that I'd find some way to escape this hellish dead forest...
