Blot and Damian followed Steelbeak to the vehicle garage, where a few egghead soldiers were just finishing up a new vehicle from what Damian could tell.

It looked a bit different from some of the standard vehicles. This one looked like a downscaled spaceship, with three big tail fins and the cockpit more at the front than anywhere else. However, this didn't launch like a spaceship, and the cockpit was big enough for more than one pilot or passenger, and the nose wasn't really cone shaped.

Damian and Blot turned to each other with curious looks, then back at Steelbeak. He dismissed the soldiers, who left, then turned back to face Damian and Blot.

"I just need you two to test this," he said, "and make sure it works well. You'll take it out for city patrol today, and come right back."

For some reason, Steelbeak didn't sound very irritated in any of what he said. Damian didn't know why, but that made him feel uneasy. Blot seemed to catch on and share the feeling, but he quickly abandoned any sign of it, as Damian put on his mask to hide it.

"Roger that," he said, trying to sound as formal as he could for his nervousness.

Steelbeak nodded, handed Damian the key, then left. And Blot could've sworn he saw a mischievous grin flash across the brute's distorted metal beak. That made him feel even more nervous, particularly for Damian's sake. Regardless, the two stepped up to the ship.

The cockpit window opened, and a side door with steps folded down next to it. Damian stepped in first, seeing as Steelbeak had basically assigned him to be the pilot. That being, he sat in the driver's seat, and readied the key. There were three other seats; one next to the pilot, and two behind. Blot sat in the one next to Damian, to keep a close eye on him.

Damian took a deep breath, for it had been a long time since he'd driven any of F.O.W.L.'s vehicles for anything. Recently, he'd just gone out by himself for things. He was nervous that he might have somewhat lost his touch. But Blot had climbed onboard with him, which showed that he trusted Damian, and Damian, more nervous than he could remember, was determined to earn and keep Blot's trust.

He pressed a blue button next to the key-hole, which closed the side door and the dome over the two of them. Then Damian turned the key and started the engine.

At once, the hangar bay door opened, and Damian put his foot on the gas pedal, and they were off!

The controls were similar to some of F.O.W.L.'s jet planes that Damian had flown previously, so this wasn't too hard. He pulled the yolk up before they had reached the end of the runway, and he and Blot were up in the air immediately.

As they flew, Damian wondered why he and Blot specifically had been assigned for today's patrol, but he was at least glad to be rid of Steelbeak for a while again. He'd recently gone off on a self-assigned mission to one of F.O.W.L.'s old bases, rebuilt it, and worked on a ton of tech. Steelbeak had been aware of this, but he sure wasn't happy about it. At the time, Damian hardly cared. Now, he wondered why he had done that in the first place. He seemed to have forgotten who he was after losing Black Heron, his only living relative, and it had made him a bit more...evil. Damian had been consciously aware of that, but now he didn't like the sound of it. Long ago, he had wanted power, not evil. Recently, he had wanted evil, not power. Now, he didn't know what he wanted.

Suddenly remembering that he was flying a ship, he shook his head and kept his eyes on the sky. Thankfully, he hadn't accidentally flown and crashed into anything, but it wasn't like he would have anyway. He sighed, but tried to make it discreet so as to not concern Blot.

Blot looked out at the sky wistfully, then Damian, flawlessly flying the vehicle. He had noticed how much Damian had grown, in many different ways, since they first met. He knew Damian was going through a new, and big stage of struggle in his life at the moment, but he was determined to stick by his side, as Damian had lost anyone else who would. He turned back to the window, looking back out at the sky.
