She shook her head, making her ponytail clump.
''You're pathetic. You're chasing something you can never have."
"I have no intention of wasting my time talking to you." I said as I started to leave, but she wouldn't let me.
She grabbed my arm.
"You have to stop !"
"What happens between Puen and me is none of your business!" I shouted, my jaw clenching.
She raised an eyebrow.
"What exactly is going on? From what I've seen, he doesn't want you. And that's the right decision."
"You don't understand anything..."
"You're the one who doesn't understand". She retorted. "But nobody can blame you, since you're not part of the same world as Puen and me. You don't have to be just an actor. You have to be clever. You have to think like a businessman. Nothing can tarnish my image because I'm a brand that has to sell. It's the same for Puen. If you're not a selfish person, you'll stop insisting and avoid destroying his career. You're not meant for each other."
"You say that because you only want him for yourself."
"Deep down you know I'm right. Leave him alone. Just be his manager and if you can't, quit and get away from him."
Her sharp words cut me to the heart.
"I also think it's best for you." She said, pretending to be sad.
I did a volt-face so as not to show her that she'd hit the mark. I'd made the same points she had. This had got me to build a wall between Puen and myself. I'd done everything I could, without realizing it, to avoid laying the last brick.
Puen and I had overcome loneliness, despair and fear together. Meeting in the other world had seemed like a stroke of fate, then falling in love had been a matter of course. As the days passed, we didn't know if we'd ever find our way back. But everything had become bearable by his side. I'd almost dream of going back to that time. Was it our destiny to meet but not to end up together?
As I walked away, Julia spat her venom one last time.
"I'm sure you'll make the right decision !"
I returned to my room, where Andy was waiting for me in the living room.
"Did you talk to him?"
"Not really. But I did talk to Julia."
"What did she say?"
"For once, I think she's right."
Fear spread across his perfect-skinned face.
"Wow, wow, wow ! Right about what?"
"I should let it go. Maybe Puen and I aren't meant to be together."
He looked disappointed.
"So how does this end?"
I took my head in my hands.
"I don't know! I don't know! Okay?" I exploded. "I don't know what to do! I'm so lost! Maybe I should have spoken from the beginning ? Or maybe it's a good thing I didn't? I don't know what to do."
"The best choice will always be love."
"This isn't a movie. In real life, that's not always the case."
Andy tapped me gently on the shoulder.
"The mini-bar is going to be our best friend tonight."
I'd had a headache since I woke up and it didn't seem to want to leave me alone. I got ready for the film preview. I was dressed in a simple white shirt and a sober black suit. After all, it wasn't me the paparazzi wanted to photograph. I joined the team in the hall. Everyone was getting down to their respective tasks. The stylists were checking the outfits of the star couple. I stood in a corner, against the wall, watching Puen chat with his make-up artist. He was wearing a slim-fitting burgundy suit. Part of his forehead was covered by strands of hair. I couldn't feel the excitement around me. The alcohol had succeeded in putting me into a deep sleep, yet I still felt tired. My mind was preoccupied.
