THE LAST THING Ricky Bowen expected when he climbed up to Phoebe's room was Katherine Miller to be in there. He'd come to have a pre-school/opening night makeout session before he left. He missed sneaking away from class to meet her in between filming.

"I—" he stammered. "I, um, tried the front door—" Katherine gave him a look. "Okay, not as clever as I thought. Understood. Um. . . what are you doing here?"

"My children live here and so does their father," Katherine answered. "The better question is, what are you doing here?"

Ricky awkwardly shifted, deciding not to point out the fact that Phoebe would grant a spider permission to access her room before she did Katherine — and Phoebe hated spiders. "I meant, um, what are you doing in Phoebe's room?"

"I don't have to explain myself to you, Richie," Katherine shook her head. "Shouldn't you be in school? Like a responsible person?"

"School's not for another 45 minutes. . ." Ricky shrugged. "And it's Ricky."

"Wow," Katherine sighed, shaking her head. "Look, Ricky, I don't have anything against you. I just want what's best for my daughter. I want her to have a good future with a guy who knows what he wants. That's just not you."

"Who is it then? Mack? EJ?" Ricky guessed. "And what exactly makes you think that's not me?"

"My kids deserve the best and only the best," Katherine went on, ignoring him. "They don't deserve to have to wait around."

"Okay," Ricky scoffed and went to turn like he was leaving. "Wait. . ." He paused and pointed at Katherine. "Speaking of having to wait around, I remember Phoebe waiting around for you on all of our opening nights. And at her graduation party. Oh, and before we took her to LA."

        Katherine's eyes narrowed at him.

"Are you planning on showing up for her when she releases her first album or when she goes on her first tour?" Ricky inquired. "'Cause, you know. . . Millers don't deserve to have to wait around."

Meanwhile, Phoebe was driving home from dropping Jack off at school and having a quick fitting at East High. She had practically been forced to take the role of Juliet in the adaptation to gain more publicity. Quinn was planning on announcing the movie tonight in East High's auditorium. She'd been nice enough to push it back so Phoebe could watch the musical.
