Chapter 3: A Risk Worth Taking
As the weeks passed, Akia found herself spending more and more time with Kenzo. They met up after school, talked about their hopes and fears, and even shared their dreams for the future.
The trees had turned shades of red and gold, creating a picturesque backdrop for their conversation.
Kenzo leaned back, his hands tucked behind his head. "You know, Akia, I never thought I'd find someone I could actually talk to in this place," inamin niya.
Kenzo chuckled. "Yeah, I get that a lot. People have this image of me, ngunit hindi ito kung sino talaga ako."
Akia learned about Kenzo's love for art, a passion he had kept hidden for fear of being labeled "soft" by his friends. Kenzo, in turn, discovered Akia's talent for poetry, a skill she had nurtured in secret.
Isang araw, habang nakaupo sila sa paboritong coffee shop ni Akia, sumandal si Kenzo sa mesa at sinabing, "You know, Akia, you should enter that poetry contest they're holding at school."
Akia's eyes widened.
Kenzo shook his head, his expression earnest. "You're really good, Akia. I've read your stuff, remember? Mayroon kang kakaibang boses.
She nodded slowly. "Okay, I'll think about it."
"That's the spirit."
Over the next few days, Akia began to work on her submission for the poetry contest. It was a risk, putting her innermost thoughts on display, but she felt a sense of liberation in it.
When she finally submitted her poem, Magkahalong excitement at pagkabalisa ang naramdaman niya. Kenzo had been her biggest supporter, and she hoped he was right about her talent.
She had never been one to seek validation from others, but this was different. Her poem was a piece of her heart, and she wanted it to be heard.
When it was her turn, she stepped up to the microphone, feeling a rush of adrenaline. She began to recite her poem, pouring every emotion into her words.
The poem was a raw, heartfelt expression of her experiences, her dreams, and her newfound friendship with Kenzo. As she finished, there was a moment of silence before the audience erupted into applause.
She had done it. She had shared a piece of herself with the world, and it had been received with appreciation.
"You were amazing, Akia."
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she hugged him tightly. "Salamat, Kenzo.
Their friendship continued to flourish, and it was clear to both of them that their bond was something special. She had never been one to entertain romantic thoughts, but being around Kenzo was different.
One evening, as they were stargazing in a quiet corner of the park, Akia decided to broach the subject. "Kenzo, do you ever wonder... if there's something more between us?"
Kenzo turned to her, his gaze intense. "What do you mean, Akia?"
"I mean, do you ever think that maybe we're more than just friends?"
Kenzo didn't respond immediately. Finally, he spoke, his voice soft and sincere. "Akia, I've never felt a connection with anyone like I do with you. You're special to me, and I don't want to risk losing that. But at the same time, I'm afraid of ruining what we have."
Akia nodded, understanding his concerns. "I feel the same way, Kenzo. But maybe... just maybe, it's a risk worth taking."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
"I'm saying that I want to find out if there's more between us. I want to take that risk, Kenzo."
They had ventured into a friendship that defied expectations, and now they were taking the next step, exploring a love that neither of them had anticipated.
Habang nakasandal sila para sa kanilang unang halik, ang mundo sa kanilang paligid ay nawala sa dilim, at sa sandaling iyon, it was just Akia and Kenzo—two souls bound by an unbreakable connection, ready to embrace the unpredictable path that lay ahead.
